how to help my bunny’s scraped skin?

I don’t know what my bunny did to get this on his face. He was fine just a few hours ago.

It seems like the fur was ripped out of his face. I found little thin cluster of fur on the tip of his chew toy.

He was exploring and eating as usual this morning, and he is napping now….
but the red skin looks so painful, and I can’t help but worry! T__T

I called the vet right away but the earliest appointment is next Tuesday. What can I do to help over this 4-day period?

The reception lady of vet office said I could use q-tip and dab some hydrogen peroxide on the spot, and then put some neosporin… 

but I’m so scared that I might hurt him

Had anyone experienced something like this before?
How do you treat scraped skin on a bunny?

If I leave it untreated, would it get worse or will the fur just grow back?

the vet office said bunnies could get bald patches from bumping into things around this cage. I never knew it could be this severe!

Oh dear! Judging by his squinty eyes, he looks happy/content. I would do what the receptionist advised. It might hurt him, but I think it would be better to cause some temporary discomfort to ensure that the area doesn’t get infected, because an infection would probably hurt a lot more, and last longer. You could try distracting him by petting him and giving him treats/pellets/veggies while you treat him. I haven’t been in this boat before, but that’s what I would do if I were in it.

 

Edit: I wanted to add. I didn’t know that could happen either! That would be quite alarming! I had a class-mate in college whose bun’s tail fell off. They took him to the vet to get the area cleaned, but they never found out how it happened. Buns are mysterious.

It’s like babysitting my niece and nephew all over again.

I look away for a few minutes eating my breakfast, look back to find him with a patch of fur pulled out by who knows what…

Actually, I wouldn’t use the hydrogen peroxide, as I have heard that can be quite painful, and can actually slow the healing process. If you have any povidone iodine, I would use that, and then dab it with a bit of the “original” Neosporin (do not use the triple antibiotic stuff).
I don’t think that could have happened by “bumping into something.” Do you have any other pets?
Poor guy, the good thing is it doesn’t appear to be hurting him that much. ((((vibes))))

ah…yes.

That’s why I was afraid to use it as the vet office advised…because that stuff hurts me when I put it on my scraped skin. I imagine it’d be just as painful for the bunny. 

I don’t have any iodine…would neosporin alone be all right ?

I had doubts too regarding the bumping into things theory…My bunny Maru is the only pet in the house, and the only thing suspicious was his wooden chew toy 

it had some of his fur stuck on the pointy part…O_O!!

he had it for a while and nothing like this ever happened before….

I just hope the skin doesn’t get worse…

If you don’t have iodine, I would just clean it with some warm water before applying the neosporin.
I still don’t see how the nut-knot-nibbler could have done that, but maybe? Of course you may never know, naughty mysterious bunnies.

I was able to put some neosporin on him.

it wasn’t as bloody the next day. 

it still look very painful to me, yet he seems to be unaffected by it. eating running and napping as usual.

I wouldn’t be able to endure such wound like he does…they sure are naughty and mysterious. >_<

just hope he doesn’t get himself hurt again.
