I’m trying to figure out how old my current bunny is.
I rescued 2 babies last week. One baby died within hours from massive infections. The current baby snacks on pellets, grass hay and drinks water on it’s own. I haven’t introduced veggies yet. I was prepared to syringe feed formula, but it was stealing crackers lol. It’s fully furred. Blue-grey eyes.
Back info: my neighbor has 3 rabbits outside. 1 male, 2 females. None neutered/spayed. There used to be 6 or 7. The females have babies frequently, but the opposite female kills them within a day. It’s been AWFUL to live next to. I think they are dwarf lops. I saw it for the first time on Wednesday and caught them immediately. The only reason these 2 made it was because they could escape the pen just enough to avoid the other female. And the dogs on the other side *SIGH*.
So now that this little guy is pulling through, I’m trying to figure out how old it is.
Other info to know: my experience is with lionheads. My bunnies have always been indoor, ‘free-range’, extremely spoiled. I neuter my rabbits & have a vet that treats rabbits.

That sounds awful!  Have you considered reporting the neighbors for cruelty to animals?

I don’t think there is any way for us to guess without a picture.  Are there any rabbit shelters you could take him to?  One near me helpfully guessed the age for the stray I found (younger than I thought…) and gave me recommendations for the appropriate diet for a baby.  I had bought adult rabbit food for a 4-5 week old without knowing better at the time.  Ideally, it would help to bring him to a vet to examine him – it’s possible he started eating solid food because he was starving, I think.  If you think he’s really young, it might help to supplement solid food with formula, but I don’t really know about tiny babies.

Good luck saving the little guy.

To be clear, I wasn’t telling you to surrender him to a shelter, if you don’t want to, just that the volunteers might be able to answer your questions.

It is pretty awful. We recently moved to Oklahoma from California. And unfortunately animal cruelty is not a big deal here. Things I see happen with dogs & cats is awful. I’ve already been given the advice to just drown the baby and not waste my time. Yeah. No local rabbit rescues. I’ll eventually take the baby to the vet and hopefully he’ll be able to age him. I am still offering the baby formula twice a day. Sweet little thing sleeps on me & licks. MELTS MY HEART! It’s not hydrated enough. I encourage it to drink frequently. I can handle the care. I happen to be sick in bed 24/7 anyways. So this babe has been in my bed since I brought it in. At first I thought it couldn’t be more than a week old because none of the babies next door last even a day. And the temp dropped below zero a few nights. But while researching how much formula to give, I saw that for it to be completely furry, eyes open, active etc.. it had to be several weeks old.
