So far I have gotten great advise on this forum.  My daughter’s bunnies are 4 mos old.  Up until now they have only had pellets and hay.  I want to start them on lettuce but I have no idea how much.  Can someone tell me, compared to the palm of my hand, how much lettuce to give each bunny?  They are holland lops, one is much bigger than the other and I have no idea if one is unusually small or one is unusually large.

The optimal amount to start out with is the size of a quarter – so about 1/4 of the size of your palm if you have small-medium hands. Check poos to make sure the vegetable (in this case lettuce) is not upsetting their stomachs. If not, you can double the amount you are giving every day after.

Just make sure you’re not feeding iceberg lettuce (bad for buns!). The other lettuces are fine though!

I think you can do more than a quarter size of lettuce – that doesn’t seem like much to me. Just start with a few leaves of lettuce and go from there.

When I started on veggies I usually gave about a half or a third of a leaf in the beginning and kept that up for a few days until I could be sure she was handling it well and then would up it to a full leaf, then 2 ect. I’ve never had any trouble with any veggies with my little girl but she’s a resilient little thing so start with the basics and slowly build up a staple diet. Some bunnies are sensitive to certain things so just keep an eye out when you first introduce it. Definitely read the article Sarita posted too. It’ll help a lot.

Sarita – All this time I thought I had gotten that amount from the HRS website – just looked – on HRS it says less than a 1/2 ounce for new veggies at first!

I’m really not sure where I got the quarter thing…. Huh.
