how much should it cost to fix a rabbit?

i was just wondering what an average price is, because my rabbit Nic has an appointment to be neutered in about two weeks and it’s going to cost around $350…keeping him from going hormone crazed is worth it, but it’s a lot for my budget.

i really depends on where you live. I found a place that had $310 in another $181.

I found such  range of costs.  From 350 to 78 dollars.  Call around and make sure they have done rabbits before.

I had mine fixed for $350- it was a lot for my budget too. But getting my rabbit to calm down was well worth it- what area are you in? Someone might be able to direct you to a low cost vet.

i’m in San Francisco. i tried to do price comparisions, but it was hard because only two out of about ten vets in my area were even willing to see rabbits & only one of those said they do so regularly, so that was the vet i went with.

Welcome darkvenus!  So glad you’re getting your bunny neutered!

If  I lived in SF, I’d make the trip to VCA to see Dr. Harvey.  Not sure how much neuters cost there.  She’s a first rate bunny specialist and donates a lot of time to help rescue buns.

For Jessica (PHilly area), I rec’d 2 price quotes:  $350 and $198.  The first vet was great but kind of far and only worked 2 days a week.  The second is my current vet.  Their prices are great and their practice is awesome.  They treat everything…small mammals, birds, reptiles, dogs, cats, etc.

Just yesterday I brought in my fat boy Max…feline dermatitis due to allergies.  Imagine a cat allergic to us!  While there I made Jess’s spay appt.  The $198 includes the surgery, pre-surgical blood, and pain meds.  As all know, I’ve had to work hard to get this cash together.  Anyway while there w/ Max we saw 2 ferrets, 3 dogs (2 giant ones), 2 cats, and a very happy fatty lop eared bunny.  I have to tell you how cool is was to see all these species!  I’m also very happy having the same practice for all my pets (cats, bun, and gecko)!

That sounds like a really fun vet! I just changed vets recently – and I really like my new place as well.  The nurse that brought me into the doctor’s office had adopted THREE bunnies from a rescue that I work with a lot – so she let me sneak two baby bunnies into the vet visit that was originally scheduled for JUST Raymond.

Poor kitty with allergies I know how she feels, I sneeze when I look at a cat *boo* cats used to be my favorite animal and then I developed these stupid allergies.  Well, at least it help introduce me to the world of house bunnies!

I agree with gravehearted. Dr. Harvey is one of the best bunny vets in the Bay Area. She also donates her time to HRS. It’s amazing how much spays and neuters for bunnies cost these days! I paid $60.00 for Kahlua and $90.00 for Chloe. My vet Dr. Evans at El Sobrante Animal Care Clnic does hundreds of bunnies a year, so he knows what he’s doing. He also does a very thorough check-up on them every year.

I have a vet who specializes in lagomorphs and it cost $325 two years ago this month to get Sophie spayed. It was definitely alot for my budgeting but it’s the best decision healthwise that you can make for your house rabbit! Please make sure to go to a vet who treats rabbits regularly. A regular vet who offers to spay or neuter a bunny for $75 is probably a cat/dog vet and doesn’t understand the complications of anesthesia and rabbits. If you get lucky, you can find a Dr. Harvey like bunnies4ever, bit unfortunately it’s not that common where I live to find a rabbit vet who donates their time to HRS!
