Hera was on unlimited pellets for awhile because she was a little underweight and young.  Now I’m noticing she’s beginning to get mushy poops.  I removed everything from her diet except hay – poops are normal again.  She doesn’t get much treats, and isn’t a huge fan of greens, so it appears it was the pellets that were the culprit.

I’m just curious how much pellets your bun(s) get.  They are also on an alfalfa-based pellet (no timothy based pellets to be found anywhere in my area), so I know they should get a little less than they would if they were on a timothy-based pellet.

Zeus is about 10 lbs, Hera is a little over 4 lbs.  Zeus gets about 1/2 cup a day.  Based on the BinkyBunny guidelines he should be getting more, but that’s about the max he will eat.  He’s not a huge pellet fan.  Hera was getting ad lib, she’s getting like 1/2 teaspoon right now because I’m slowly weaning her back onto them after her bout of mushy poops.  I’m thinking maybe 1/8 cup may be about right for her.

My buns, especially Bindi, used to get a lot of gi problems. My vet suggested drastically reducing the pellets and it has helped quite a bit. They get less than a TBSP twice a day.

Just a suggestion…do you want to know how much people give per pound of rabbit as opposed to just how much??

Mine get 1/4 a cup or a little bit more that they share. I agree with MB though, that doesn’t tell you much.

I’m not sure how much Sunny weighs, but he’s 4 years old and he gets 1/4 C. at night every day of Oxbow Adult rabbit pellets.
