I found a bunny that I like at a shelter in NJ.  It’s about a 6 hour drive from my house.  But!  Caveat in my favor:  My boyfriend lives about 5.5 hours from here (Westchester) in the same general direction as the bunny and I plan to go see him several times over the summer.  So I could drive straight to the bunny, pick him up, then drive up to my bf’s house for the weekend (~2 hour drive from the bunny).  So it’s really only like I’m driving 2 hours to get him… not, um, 6.

Dumb idea?  I should just wait and find one closer, right?  But look he’s so cute- he reminds me of that one that was adopted before I could get to him.  I suspect he could tolerate the drive well, and he’d have a 3 day break between the first (2hr) drive and the second (5.5hr) drive.

Oh wow… so cute! I don’t think that’s too far at all, as long as he has somewhere comfortable and non-stressful to stay at your boyfriend’s!

I’m not sure how you can resist that face!

You’re going to see the BF and so technically you’re only travelling a further 1/2 hour to the shelter right? Sounds reasonable .
As for the logistics, 6 hr trips can be done provided you take breaks for them. Perhaps start communicating with the shelter and when you are over that way, go in and meet the bun. Are you looking to bond him with other rabbits? Another thing is the shelter may actually do trips themselves when they go to pick up rescues. So they may be open to bringing an adopted bun part way to the new home.

            Edit: There’s a picture? I can’t see…

No he’ll be my first bunny so he doesn’t need any bunny dating or anything like that. I had a foster rabbit two years ago but wanted to wait to commit to my own until I was finished with college.

The picture is from petfinder and their site has been having issues with pics lately. I can see it now, but if you can’t maybe check back? Anyway here’s his link: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13422053. I can only see the one picture I posted, actually.

I emailed the shelter =D It would be so nice to finally get a bunny. Would be just as much of a hassle as the one I missed out on… but… um, I missed out on one first. So now it seems worth it!

Thanks. You not wrong about trouble with pix – still wouldn’t load properly. Still, i could see him in a few thumbnails – very sweet! Looks like there’s some waiting anyhow, it says they won’t be adopted out until neutered. Or has this already taken place?

Edit: pic above is now visible to me..

I’m not sure. I asked about that in my email to them… he doesn’t seem that young so I would only expect it to be a few weeks, which would be fine since I’m busy finding a job now anyway. Was supposed to be taking the lsat in June but I missed the registration deadline, hmph.

And NJ has a low gas tax so it would save me money to drive to NJ to get gas anyway… so it’s actually a logical and budget-friendly decision! …. …
