I normally only used those coupon pages as litter and hay on top because I mistakenly bought scented bedding. In the beginning she wasn’t eating much and I thought it was the bedding so I stopped using it. Months later I started putting the bedding under the coupon pages and she seemed fine with it. Now, I ran out of the coupon page, so I used a blank sheet of printing paper. So I just witnessed Migi become a magician and pulled that blank sheet right in between the bedding and hay without messing up anything lol.

She’s tossing and dragging that folded sheet of paper around now.

My question is. Is it okay to just have a layer of bedding and hay on top? It says it absorbs liquids well on the bag. Can I leave that sheet of paper in there to drag around and possibly bite on?

I don’t use anything at all to line my litter box – I use the litter only and put the hay on top of that (well in a corner of the litter box).

What type of litter are you using?

The Kaytee Clean & Cozy bedding. The lavender scent doesn’t seem to bother her anymore.

I’m not familiar with this but it appears to be like Carefresh. I would just try using the litter myself and getting rid of those coupon sheets. Have you tried any other litters?

I have not. I only learned about the coupon sheets from a youtube video haha. I really don’t want to waste the bedding though (big bag). How much litter do you put in yours? I think I need to put more because when I used the bedding + coupon sheets, everything under the hay absorbed her urine (not do the point where it’s soaking and wet once it’s time to replace, which I do every morning).

By the way, the bedding isn’t all over the cage if you’re thinking that. I line the cage with a soft towel and the bedding is only used in the litter box.

I would definitely recommend you use up what you have before considering something else. I use horse stall pellets so the amount I use probably wouldn’t help you since the litter is quite different.
