› FORUM › DIET & CARE › How do I play with my bunny??
I know that bunnies love playing in tunnels, hiding places, etc., but how do I play with her? I want to bond with my rabbit by playing with her, but how? Thanks!!
My bun loves to pick up wads of paper and give them to me. I call it “working”. After she has brought them to me I put them back out on the floor again.
I play pick-up sticks with Huckleberry. I pick up a stick, she takes it away and puts it back down, I pick it up, she puts it down. This goes on for a long time.
Mine don’t seem to interested in anything I’m doing. Unless it involves treats, of course. They do have a Teach N Treat that they play with on a regular basis. I just have to set it up for them. They also like playing “toss” with a variety of toys including willow rings, grass balls, and rattles. They also have a basket that has “carrots” in it. I will put the carrots in the basket and they will pull them out and toss them all over the floor.
Lay on the floor & read a book or go on the computer, its makes them so irritated that you are ignoring them that they get in your face and demand attention lol. Works for mine every time.

Ha ha. Nothing gets Floppy more interested in me than when I have a friend over and we’re talking nearby but not paying any attention to him. He gets so friendly and playful, coming over and sniffing and climbing on us, trying to distract me (and whoever happens to be visiting). He’s a worse show off than my kids! But yeah, when nobody’s here? Couldn’t care less most of the time. Silly bun. ![]()
I try to encourage them to jump up on things – new boxes, the couch, etc for interaction. I also move their boxes and toys around so they can explore new areas.
I like training them to do tricks as it’s a good way to interact and can really improve a shy bun’s confidence.
Other than that, they don’t actually “play” with me the way a dog or cat would. I just kind of watch them play, then call them over for pets or to do tricks.
Train your bunny to do tricks! She will love getting rewarded for doing a good job and she will be bonding with you and learning to trust you at the same time! You can clicker train them its not too difficult, it just takes patience.
THIS IS SO TRUE!!! I have many books now that have chunks taken out of the pages and eaten!
Zeus loves to knock things over, or sometimes play tug of war with a piece of paper. I’ll take a water bottle and set it in front of him. He’ll headbutt it and knock it over, then roll it back at me. Then I pick it back up, he knocks it back over, etc.
Tug of war is me holding a piece of paper in front of him, and he grabs it and TUGTUGTUGTUGS until he rips off a piece. Then he grabs it again, TUGTUGTUGTUG, rips off another piece, etc. ![]()
Olivia loves playing with stacking cups. You know those little coloured, plastic, stackable cups for babies? I bought her a set from Toys R Us. She loves for me to stack them all up and then she knocks them down and tosses them. She also likes playing with a deck of playing cards. I fan them all out and she picks cards out and tosses them. She also likes to play chase games.
OK, that was hilarious.
I decided to spend some time with my bunn last night in his room, since he was apparently not feeling like coming to the living room to hang out. And, I brought a book with me since he tends to not like being cuddled and, if he was going to focus on eating instead of playing, I wanted to get some reading done. In the past, he has been cutely curious if I had my tablet or laptop out around him, so I wasn’t expecting anything odd.
He was quite upset with me for daring to read a book in his presence, stretched out on the rug. It was like I violated some huge warren etiquette rule and he had to point out the error of my ways ASAP. He stopped his hay-munching and hopped over and dug at my book, then tried to grab it out of my hands. It got to the point where I would “read” just to annoy him because it was too funny. After 2 hours, he finally decided that there was a connection between him hopping away and me opening the book, so Mr. “Don’t pet me, please” sat himself right next to me and let me pet him for a surprisingly long time to keep me from opening that book.
It was totally surprising to me and totally hilarious. Thanks!
Bunnies are funny! ![]()
Spooky likes to play chase, pick up sticks, and with dangly stuff. Like a cat toy or something. He also likes to update his Facebook status. Yes, really, he has a Facebook page, and I leave it open for him and he will hop on the keyboard and I will post it for him.
Spooky also gets really offended when I am around him but texting or reading. He has learned how to take my phone out of my hand with his teeth. He does this to my boyfriend too!
Hunny & I play Tug of War w/ a teaser wand (cat toy)… I’ll twirl it over her head or drag it across the floor slow enough for her to grab a hold then she’ll start tugging on it… I tug back so she has to work for it but in the end she always wins. She also loves to play chase… I’ll walk by her & she’s quick on my heels (that’s how I know she’s in a playing mood) so I’ll turn around & say “You can’t catch me” & she’ll continue to chase me back & forth from the livingroom thru the diningroom & down the hall. I also taught her UP (with treat rewards of course). Now when I say “up” and pat my chest she hops up on my lap & gives me whisker kisses. She’s even started doing it to my boyfriend… he don’t get the kisses though, lol. She usually just hops up sits there for a second or 2 and then hops back down. What can I say… she’s a mommas girl!
Stormy and I also play taxi. If he’s on the couch, I get into a horsey position and he hops on my back and rides around the living room. He loves it. Talk about spoiled!
I have turned myself into Ziggy’s slave. He loves getting back massages before bed now. I just massage around his ears and his “shoulders”. If I did an acceptable job I’ll get some nose bumps after.
