Well I was relaxing on the couch watchign a hilarious foreign film.  Cotton on top his cage getting pettings.  Little pops no biggie.  Bigger pops he would jump up his head. Then settle back down in a few.  On and off.  Then hubby came in and he jumped to the floor with his big eyes.

I ended taking him with me to the dock to watch the fireworks.  I covered him part of the way so the lights from the works didnt’ spook him.

We watched a nice show from where we were.  Cotton even settled in with some tooth purrs. When the works were over we came home.  Cotton did ok far as I know when we went to bed.  I didnt’ hear him thump and neither did hubby.

Ruby no problem.   Like nothing happening.          Anyone else?

One of my bunnies was actually found running away from the fireworks on the 4th of July! Poor little girl, so I always worry about her on the 4th, but she hasn’t had any problems with the fireworks yet.  This is Juli with some of her Christmas gifts:

Nova was acting like she does before a storm. She didn’t like the smell of smoke I think. She actually was looking to get pets and comfort from me (trust me, not normal for her!). I think that’s how I was able to catch her in the first place; she still trusted humans after they dumped her and since she was scared and I was a nice human it all worked out. She’s just is a little brat when she feels comfortable!

The really funny thing is that out of all of our animals she is the only one that really had a problem with everything going on. Horse doesn’t care, cats don’t care, dogs don’t care, chickens don’t care, ect.

My bunnies did quite well…cats too (although our feral cat was out all night and I haven’t seen her yet today, so I hope she’s okay. Hubby would’ve told me otherwise I think.)
But in our neighborhood, it doesn’t stop after the 4th. We’ve had some pops and bangs going off today (probably all week is my guess-it was bad enough that it started by the first of the month!) )and of course the diazepam didn’t help the dogs much. They would sleep and be groggy if I sat in their enclosure with them, but by 11 PM I was done and had to come in for a shower to get all my mosquito bites to stop itching. Of course the drunken neighbors don’t seem to realize that after midnight things are supposed to be quiet.
Taiku has a bare scrape all the way down his nose from yanking on the fence. It looks pretty nasty. I’ve been using a 40-60 hydrogen peroxide/water mix and neosporin on it.
And then after everyone finished with their displays last night (because it had rained heavily with thunder and lightning most of the day) the cooler high level air pushed all the exhaust from the fireworks into our yard. it was thicker than tule fog. So no windows open last night to help with the heat in the house. I had to have my fan on most of the night just to be able to sleep. So today Mimzy is sneezing a bit more than usual. Me too though, so maybe the smoke (we also have a wildfire nearby) is causing it. It was a benadryl day.

I used to love 4th of July. Now I hate it. My poor animals. And all the other animals who don’t like loud noises. They deserve more consideration than this. I appreciate patriotism and holiday spirit, but seriously….

BT, that is amazing that Cotton did so well and you could take him to see the displays in your area! 0_o That is one rock steady bun you have there!

Yeah I agree… it’s really impressive that you could take Cotton TO the fireworks like that.

I STILL don’t have a bunny so I have a dog story instead. She got along well with my foster bunny when I had him… she’s kinda bunnyish herself anyway. I had a bonfire on the beach with my friends and when I got home (about an hour after our local fireworks) my dog was laying in my mom’s closet wayyyy in the far corner. But I’d given her some rescue remedy for pets (thanks guys!) and she came out right when she realized it wasn’t just me there (she’s so used to me that I’m unexciting, but my boyfriend stayed this weekend and when he came in to check on her, and find out where I was, she got up all excited). Usually she’d still be shaking and would settle down when I came in to see her, then just stay in the closet all night.

Pepper is a sophisticated city-bun and couldn’t care less.

She has been known to thump back at the sky during thunderstorms.  Hey, you up there – Shut it!

See, that’s what I don’t understand. When I was growing up, you’d be arrested for using fireworks on any day other than the 4th. Nowadays, not so much.
It used to be called disturbing the peace. >.<

Where I live there is always someone shoots a shotgun somewhere so my buns are pretty used to loud noises. It also helps that my bedroom (where their pens are) has 0 windows so not much sound or lights get through.

My Bunny is cool with fire works. Strangely enough, since I have moved to my current apartment back in October there has been averagely at least one fire work set off every week. Me and Bunny are used to it now.

Great sounds like your pets did good except for the dog there.   Spar the boxer I used to have would shake and shake.   Poor girl.

One thing that really gets Cotton is when the electricity goes off.   Even in the day.  Don’t know why.  Maybe cause all the house noises stop.

                            Cotton is one crazy bunny.
