Hopefully my last poop thread!

Okay, so what I’ve established for Peanut is this: His poops always start out small, then as the day goes on, they return to normal size. I am thinking this is probably because he doesn’t eat much (if any) during the night. We top his grass up before bed and he’ll have a good munch of that but then that’s pretty much it til morning. There is always hay leftover. His poops have been this way for a while now and he seems fine in every other aspect. This is just…interesting. 

Next, Buttercup. I’ve made a few threads about her poops I’m sure. Generally, her poops are great. Nice and round and a good size. Though there’s always the odd small poop or two (or three…). Like teeny tiny along with her larger normal poos. Today there was one odd shaped one too. Usually the shape is pretty consistent and it’s just the size that varies. Like Peanut, in every other way she is fine. But the odd poops scare me a little because of how sensitive and fragile their tummies are. I wonder if I’m being a little too worrisome about them? I don’t know. Thoughts? Do your bunnies do perfect shaped and sized poops all the time?!

Added: Both eat plenty of grass. Buttercup probably gets through a pile close to the size of her body, Peanut eats a little less but always has done. Frequency/quantity of poops for both is normal. Both drink lots of water and have wet veggies. Behaviour hasn’t changed at all and they don’t seem stressed or anything. Their space is a little limited at the moment  (both have half the living room each) but they’re still able to do bunny 500s and binky.

The size can vary sometimes! It depends on a few factors. How much they ate when they produced those smaller ones(probably a small amount) The position they are also laying in can even change the size. As long as it eventually becomes normal sized and your rabbit is eating and drinking as it should, it is not alarming. Youre also looking at the color, which should brown/light brown/goldish sometimes. Black/dark brown can be a bad sign assuming it is not moist by water/bunny pee. This is awkward, haha! Hope this helps.

I don’t know if I would say all the time, but when Luna’s poops do deviate from her normal ones, it is very slight in variation and only for a day or less. LPT posted a really good “Guide to Bunny Poop” in the Diet & Care forum. It’s very helpful .

Phew! I thought healthy bunnies produce poops that are the exact same shape and size and any difference is a cause for concern!

The colour varies slightly but is generally a golden brown for Buttercup and a darker brown for Peanut. How interesting that their positioning can effect the shape of the poop. I had no idea!

I keep looking at bunny poop articles (lol) and it generally says tiny poops are from slowing of the gut which is what panics me! And confuses me as none of the other ‘gut slowdown’ symptoms apply to my two monsters.

Peanut did his first string of pearls today :-/ I think maybe he’s shedding more than I thought as I immediately swiped wet hands over him and got more hair off than I had previously. I’ll start doing that twice a day!

I never expected to become obsessed with poop, of all things, but it’s a big part of being a bunny owner. After a period of learning, daily poop assessment becomes an automatic thing. It’s of course easier once your buns are adult and you know them well as individuals so you directly spot it if sth isn’t looking normal. With growing buns you have to expect irregularities.
I lintroll Bam after I’ve brushed him, it gets the loose hairs that didn’t get caught in the brush.

This is actually a good sign. It means your rabbits digestive system is working fine because it’s passing along the fur. Definitely help groom him, though.

I’ve ordered a shedding brush that is good for short haired dogs so hopefully that’ll help but I’ll continue with the wet hand thing too as that seems to help a little. Thankfully both bubs are still eating well and drinking plenty.
