Apparently there’s a movie “Hop” coming out on April 1 2011, about the son of the Easter Bunny who has other aspirational dreams. Trailer can be seen here: http://www.iwantcandy.com/

As cute as it is, my first reaction upon seeing something like this is “NOOO not a movie about cute bunnies! Please don’t prompt people to make impulse bunny purchases!!” Anybody like this too?

My daughter had asked me about this just the other day. Sadly, I have to agree, this will probably result in a bad year of impulse bunny-buying.
We’re still seeing the influence of G-Force on the amount of guinea pigs being turned over here. Hollywood will never be big on seeking the moral high ground. >_<

I think a movie with real bunnies would be more of a concern, personally. They’re cute but they are just computer-animated. Then again some people are idiots. I plan on seeing it though, maybe I’ll even treat myself and go to the movies to see it.

Someone should start a petition so that movies featuring cute animals have a disclaimer about impulse pet buying right before the movie. I’m surprised PETA hasn’t pressured hollywood into it yet.

This movie looks unoriginal and immature to me, so if it results in lots of abandoned animals, I will not be pleased.

I agree with the disclaimer before the movie AND at the end! that would be great! I want to see it just to see it. Hmmmm I wonder if I would get in trouble if I stood outside the door the the movie and handed out info on impulse buying pets from movies like these. you never know I might be able to save a few buns from a possible miserable life…

I’m surprised that more guinea pigs were bought (and then surrended, sad) as a result of a crappy CGI movie. I didn’t see that movie, but I’m assuming it was terrible. I don’t think the producers are thinking about the consequences of their movies, I agree a disclaimer would be a good idea. They should also link to information about the true cost of pets and responsible adoption from their movie website. Does anyone know of an email for the public relations department of the production company, some respectful messages with these suggestions might put it on their radar.

A good example of how a movie can make a difference is Babe, remember when it released (long time ago!) and there was a wave of kids becoming vegetarian? It really brought it into the public consciousness a little more. Even though the movie is basically vegetarian propaganda I’m not sure if that was the primary goal, I think the main goal was to make money off a cute talking animal picture. However, the lead actor James Cromwell is a longtime vegetarian and animal rights activist, so who knows. In their case they didn’t have to worry about increased numbers of unwanted pets since they were all farm animals

I think people are idiots if they see a cute bunny movie and then go out and buy one; but there are a lot of stupid people out there. I just saw the new trailer for it. I know you guys don’t like the movie but I think it’s cute and funny and can’t wait to see it. Plus James Marsden is in it I wish my bunnies pooped out jelly beans haha! The last movie I went to see had all these trailers for the end of the world movies….it’s a breath of fresh air to see a good trailer that doesn’t talk about the world’s destruction; but that’s just my opinion.

Even if there was a disclaimer at the beginning, I doubt people would read it anyways.  I don’t even read any of that stuff in the beginning.

I actually really enjoyed G-Force. I saw it at the show and bought it on DVD. But then again, I’m extremely immature! And I love it!!!!

I actually think this movie looks really cute… But it did show a scene with the guy trying to “get rid” of the bunny… But I agree about the disclaimer. I think I’ll write PETA and see if there is anything we can do about it. Or maybe I’ll just see about a petition.

I thought the movie looked really cute. I have a child so I do usually see many of these children’s movies. There will be problems with people impulse-buying, BUT people impulse-buy for Easter, for Christmas, for birthdays, because they see a cute bunny when they go in a pet store to buy a bag of cat food, AND because they don’t know how to say “No” to their child… It’s going to happen regardless.

Nice excuse! I have none, I’m just a big immature fun-loving weirdo!! I own all the boxsets of my fave childhood shows. She-Ra or Gummy Bears anyone?
