Poor little guy! The last few days he has been sneezing his little head off. No nasal discharge. Right after a sneeze if I “wipe his nose” I get just a little clear discharge which looks like what we would have if we sneezed. Started just once in a while a week or so ago and just in the past few days has become very frequent.

So I am wondering if its an allergy? I had been using hay from target by animal planet until my oxbow came in. But we have been using this animal planet hay for weeks. I know that this animal planet timothy hay has a lot of the little pieces in the bottom so Im wondering if thats what is bothering him? As soon as the oxbow came in yesterday I threw out what was left in his potty box and replaced it w/ oxbow as well as the “community potty box” upstairs. But he is still sneezing.

We have an appt in the morning to see the vet but does anyone have any suggestions for him in the mean time? I feel so bad to see him sneezing. He has had a few little sneezing fits and just like a person he stands up, holds his hands in the air and just sneezes several in a row. Cute but poor little guy!

He seems to sneeze more when he is upstairs but nothing has changed in the living room. No new cleaners or new furniture, nothing. ?

I don’t know what to tell you. Laith used to sneeze a lot but he was ok.  if you are worried can take him to the vet to make sure. sometimes the dust at the bottom of the hay or pellets can make them sneeze someone told me if they get hot they may start sneezing too. I think that was Laith’s problem so I adjusted the a/c. and he pretty much was ok after that.  I am going to order my timothy hay from bb too cuz the packages at the store have those little powder and teeny pieces on the bottom. I use up the long stems and dump the dust and tiny pieces out. I also put the bottom of their feed in a strainer to get the dust out too. that works good with their pellets. not the hay tho.

hopefully someone with more knowledge may pop in soon and answer you better.

I can’t think of anything that would cause sneezing like that other than hay, or any strong scents like perfume. My buns have been a bit sneezy lately as well – maybe its the hay? Mine just got Oxbow as well. I’ve heard you can kind of “shake out” the hay to get more of the dust out, but I don’t do that because I’m allergic to hay too! I think the fact that there is no discharge is a good sign, but keep a close eye on that, if they do get some kind of discharge it could be an illness that requires medication.

I took Hoopie this morning and the vet said it is just an allergy. She suggested buying “Little Ones Nasal Drops” that are normal saline drops to put in his nose twice daily over the weekend. She said that if he doesn’t get better she will do a short term antibiotic. We cant really figure out what he was allergic to but probably the timothy hay from target just because the bottoms of the bags are so dusty.
