        Hello everybun!

I’m glad to finally join, I am definitely in need of some support and tips in regarding my rabbit getting sick.

3 days ago my bunny, Timbit, wasn’t running or hopping around straight. Her body had been favouring the right side, and she would even tumble when trying to scratch her ear. She was running on hardwood flooring so I had moved her up to a room with carpeting to get good footing.

The day after she was tumbling more and more. Yesterday my brother had found her laying on her side with her head tiled back, doing barrel roll after barrel roll and her head was limp, one eye was cloudy. She would pause and do it all over again.

Of course I had already Google’d what I could – I could only go so far with google – and determined that she could be suffering from an ear infection / vertigo.

We had to take her to an emergency clinic and they did determine she may have a middle ear infection and e. cuniculi and we decided to treat her immediately. She is on 4 types of medication as of last night and her appetite is huge – only for her veggies though. I am trying to get her to eat hay, pellets or the formula they had given me but she refuses. I am glad she is eating though!

Currently, she is in a laundry basket padded with towels to secure her from doing more barrel rolls – this means she is laying on her side that she found most comfortable. She still in fact does LESS barrel rolls now and she finds herself back in the same position.

But what I am most concerned about is her eye on the side she is laying on. Her eye is swollen red. I called back the emergency vet and they said that usually happens with they barrel roll – the eye gets rubbed so frequently it becomes irritated.

For any bunny moms and dads out there who has experienced this — is it okay to leave her on her side for 8+ hours when we sleep, or go to work? I am just so concerned for leaving her on her side of excess amounts hours.

Once again, please note that we have already seeked and will be seeking medical attention.

I am just seeking answers to make her the most comfortable at home for the time being! And if you think its okay to leave her on her side while at work/sleep .. what can I do better to make her more comfortable .. tips are greatly appreciated!!

          Hi,
I know you have gotten medical advise, this is my experience with a rabbit with e cuniculi. My vet gave my rabbit eye drops (artificial tears) for her eye, to be given 4x a day for the eye on the side that tilts down. He said they don’t blink that eye and that can be a problem.

I use GenTeal brand eye drops for Wooly. He has permanent facial paralysis.
