Both Zou and Henry have ‘healthy’ paws, covered in very thick fur on the base of their feet.
Sore hocks? No, I thought – and then I looked closer.
As most buns, they don’t like their tootises being touched – so when I was having a cuddle session the other day I took advantage and discovered that the thick fur was ‘combed-over” like a bad hair-do and by unparting it with my fingers I discovered button sized calluses on both feet on both buns.
One of Zou’s is redder than the other and she didn’t jump when i touched it so I really don’t think its causing her pain, but I wanted to share this so you can check and keep an eye on your buns’ hocks – just in case it’s red and/or inflammed underneath the fur…
Here is beautiful thick fur, with a comb-over on her hock (heel) going in a clockwise swirl.
But when I push that comb-over aside, it reveals a furless area which has a button shaped callus.
I’ve touched it, it didn’t make her jump atall, so I’m guessing she wouldn’t have been so blasé if it hurt her…
Here is eye candy : a double “Superbun’ pose to show all 4 paws look fine, unless you look closer….
So check your bunnies, underneath the comb-over bit, to check all is well.
