Could it be I am not used to big buns?    HB will drink 1 1/2 bowl of water a day. A regular cereal bowl size. I have  crock for him I can put in the oven if you can picture it and the size.

Also he pees a LOT and I mean a LOT.  I have to change his litterbox every 2-3 days. Gosh. I  put newspaper then shredded paper then newspaper then some cut grass hubby picked up. IN 3 days for sure is soaked.

Also he can fit in his litterbox comfortably too. It is a plastic container with 31/2 inch high sides.

Is this normal for bigger buns?

I actually think it’s probably ok because he is a bigger guy.  Edson (4.6 lbs.) drinks 32 oz plus a day and I change his box daily! He’s been tested for everything and the test results show nothing. Some buns, perhaps due to the lack of water in their past, become huge drinkers. It may taper off.  Edson has actually gone from 48 oz/day to about 32.

I have a bunny Grace that also drinks a bunch, we thought we would be smart and buy one of those large “self-waterers” but she still goes through it in about 3 days so it wasn’t too much help! Other than that she is perfectly healthy, eats normal and plays normal. She was born without one eye, but I’m pretty sure that is not related. She is about 7 years old and I’ve had her for about a year now, and she has not had any health problems.

I shouldnt think its a problem, as long as they have always done it and it hasnt come on suddenly i would imagine its just normal for that bunny, when i got daxter fixed he drank and drank and drank for days afterwards, the vet said he was fine and eventually he went back to normal so if it was something like that i would get him checked, however if it is always been that way i would say its fine.

I think that’s about normal for a bigger bun.  Atleast the litter box part.  I once rabbit sat for two buns that had a cage that they shared and it was wire bottom (if only I knew then what I know now!! I would have suggested the owner cover it ) and the whole bottom was a litter box.  I had them for about 2 weeks and the bottom of it was covered in a similiar way, newspaper/shredded paper/newspaper but no grass or anything.  I had to change it daily.  Now granted this was two buns but still it was a bigger littering area…but omg their poops and pees were out of control lol.  That is why it was hard to convince my husband at first to let us get a rabbit pet lol..he was invisioning all that poop and peeeee!!!!  And these were pretty big buggers too!  What about changing to feline pine or yesterday’s news?  Especially feline pine..I find that does an excellent job in absorbing

I had a big mini lop as a kid and I don’t remember exactly how big his crock was but I know that I filled it once a day for him.  But..he was in a hutch/run and so I don’t know if he would tip it…but if he did he was able to get it back upright again
