Hi everyone. In a few weeks I will be going away for four days. In the past I would have a friend make visits to feed and check on Olaf but she isn’t available and I don’t have anyone else to ask. Our local vet doesn’t do boarding, and even if they did, I’d be leery about taking him somewhere unfamiliar. I would prefer to keep him at home.

I’ve hired a professional pet sitter who has really great reviews and credentials with rabbits, dogs, and cats. We’ve discussed my needs and she will be coming to meet us ahead of time to get to know Olaf and see the setup I use.

Have you ever hired a sitter? If so, is there anything you would do differently or do you have any good tips to keep in mind?

I will be leaving a list of his food and water requirements for morning and evening visits and emergency contacts. All of his “stuff” will be left right next to the cage so she won’t have to look for pellets, litter, or cleaning supplies.

I will also be instructing her on what to look for if he’s unwell (litter habits, not eating, etc.) so she can contact me if he seems off. Olaf is free-roam when I am home but for safety I choose to leave him in his condo while I’m away. It is a large space with a loft and plenty of toys and room to hop and stretch. I don’t want to take the chance of him getting hurt or deciding that would be the best weekend to start eating the carpet.

This is overkill but I’m just nervous any time I’m away, but especially when it is with someone new.

        Thanks!

I have never hired a sitter, but one recommendation I have is to set up cameras around the house to monitor her. Im not saying that you should buy THOUSAND dollar cameras, its just an idea. Hopefully all goes well!

Thanks, that is not a bad idea! I’ve considered it before, even with friends I trust, just to check on him when they are not there, but it would be good for security as well. I’ll see if I can find some inexpensive ones before I leave.

I’ll babysit him. Bring him over. Might not give him back.

Ha! You guys. I have a feeling he’d love to make new friends – hoomin and bun alike!

I’d much rather have any of your take care of my bunbaby. I know he would be in good hands!

Lol, My bunny would probably freak out so I would separate them, They still get unlimited oat/orchard hay, pellets, veggies and cuddles 😉
