                Try this:

                 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt171/johnsue_2009/2117.jpg

Velvet is a problem child. We picked her up at about 1 years old. She was in a small 3′ X 3′ metal cage and was in 4H shows as a show rabbit. Since then I have let her loose in our house, she stays in our living room because the only other choice is our kitchen, laminate floor( can’t get traction), which she WILL not enter and our stairs, which, she has been testing the first step lately.

Anyway, I’ve tried EVERYTHING to get thi bunny trust me and become warm and cudly, but, to no avail. She loves the cat, but, WILL not interact with humans.

Could the life of a show bunny be THAT bad, cause I can barely get her to even let me pick her up.

                any suggestions?

Hi. Velvet is so pretty! I’m sorry she’s been stand-offish, but she does look satisfied and “at home” in that pic. Most rabbits dislike being picked up and handled. Some may enjoy being cuddled and petted while they are on the floor and you sit next to them, others may be more reserved and ask for attention on their own terms. The best thing to do is just keep spending time near her, not reaching for her, just ignoring her and being as innocuous as possible. In time, hopefully she will begin to approach you. Giving her a few healthy treats might help break the ice, too, so, if you’re already doing that, just keep it up and be patient with her. I know you’ve had her for a while already, so it could just be her temperament, but some bunnies are also especially slow to warm-up, too.

I agree with Silly. For bunnies, when something is trying to pick them up, it’s generally a predator coming to eat them. So naturally they try to flee. I find that if you get down on their level, on your back or stomach, it’s less panic inducing for them. Also, have a treat handy (raisin, cranberry, crasin) to give them for coming over to you and let you pet them. She may never be a snuggle bun, lots of bunnies aren’t. But she may in time demand pets!

Thanks for the replies. I get so frustrated, she’s treated like a princess, and just can’t be friends. I guess I’m just partial, I had a house rabbit when I was around 3-5 yo. He’d cuddle, watch me during bath times and do all kinds of tricks, ha, I’m almost 53 now!

Ya its tough as a show bunny, My Flemmish Giants parents were rescued show bunnies that the breeder had over bred them and they were living in really horid conditions. He isn’t a cuddle bunny but you better give him his attention when he wants is or watch out LOL. he is also very strange in the fact he loves to go for car rides and stares out the window like a dog LOL Not sure where that came from.

Velvet is the same way. I was giving her 2 slices of an apple when she got put in her little kennel 27″ X 37″ at night. She ate those for about 6 months but after a few easter eggs, (large soft poops), I stopped the apples. MAJOR ATTITUDE!

I love the car story, that’s cool.

Sherlock does too. But I truely believe he thinks hes a dog. At the vet yesterday he kept going right up to the biggest dog and  kept trying to get in his face like  watcha doing. He is harness trained too big to carry. The vet tech couldnt believe it. I kept telling people that he has been around to many dogs…
