Hi, I’m Miss R, and I got  a bunny as early xmas present. She’s a mini rex; brownish orange and black stripped. She was so cute I had to have her. Its been a week since I’ve had her. She seems happy and energetic. She doing this thing now where she licking my feet lol…i don’t mind her lickin me but then she starts to scratch me! Her nails hurt, she not comfortable enough to sit still and let me cut them…any ideas on how I can keep her still? Or stop licking me

Well, we can’t really answer your question before you post pictures of her. Sorry, but that’s the way it is

Oh, well, licking is a friendly gesture. A way of showing affection. You don’t want her to stop that at all  As for the scratching, mine do that, when I’m in their way and they either want to dig their way through my feet or simply make me understand that I need to move ASAP.

As for the nail trimming, it does require two people. Some people can hold their bunny AND trim the nails at the same time, but I have no idea how they do that.

This is how we do it.

Here my boyfriend sits with Molly and holds her with her back to his stomach. He is supposed to support her feet as well, but he doesn’t always do it, so I have to do it.

I find that it is important that their feet are supported, so they relax more.

When you cut the nail, make sure you cut just right after the bend. You don’t want to cut the quick.

If your bunny has dark nails, make sure to sit near a window, so you can see the quick or use a torch until you get the hang of it.

Spaying can vary from $100-300. You will need to get that done around 4-6 months of age. She will become a naughty teenager and won’t calm down unless she is spayed. Rabbits do make very enjoyable pets if given the proper care Oh, and don’t forget to bunny proof

It depends on if the vet wants to do blood work before the spay. Have you found her a vet? Here is a helpful site if you live in the US:

                          Hello and welcome!!

Yes, keep cords away, cover wood that you don’t want ‘tasted’ and anything on the floor that you leave there is fair game In a way your bunny helps make your house clean of your things, but kinda messy with her things It’s really important that you get her spayed so that she doesn’t develop a reproductive cancer and pass away at a way earlier age than she needs to. It was also make her a much nicer pet by her not always wanting to reproduce or be aggressive over territory.

I think we will need to see some pictures of her too!! It’s pretty much a rule

Welcome to BB. : ) Tyger sounds like she has harlequin colouring. I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures!

If you haven’t seen this already, take a look at BUNNY INFO at the top of the page. There’s lots of bunny 101 info there and includes nail trimming and how to do a bunny buritto. i.e. wrap them securely to do a nail trim.
