        Hello,

I just joined this forum and hope to find lots of helpful info. I have one bunny and her name is Caliope. We have never had a bunny before but I rescued her from a co worker. Hubby and I have 3 cats and Cali is our first bunny. Her mom is a velveteen lop and her dad a rex mix. Cali has one floppy ear and one ear that stands up. LOL I will post a pic when I figure out how. I need to get Cali spayed soon. She is 4 months old and we have had her for 2 months now. She chews everything!

I am hoping to get one of those condos made for her but I don’t think I could build one myself. If anyone is near the Erie PA area please let me know if you can build a bunny condo. Also looking for an affordable vet to get Cali spayed.

        Thanks so much.

          Kia & Cali

Welcome! Can’t wait to see bunny pics!

On the condo . . . . they really aren’t hard to make. The hardest part is making the flooring (cutting) if you use wood (covered with vinyl or tile) but some folks use other materials for the levels. Leith Petwerks makes a pretty nice condo/cage as well. The easiest option is to just use a dog exercise pen (xpen) — no building required and super easy to clean, and inexpensive. You’ll find that xpens are a favorite on here.

Welcome welcome! Yay for rescued bunnies! Glad to hear you plan to have her spayed too. It will be so much better for you and her!

By the way, there’s a term for bunnies with one ear up and one down — “helicopter”!  Isn’t that adorable? Post pictures soon! Would love to see this gorgeous-sounding bunny.

As for affordable vets, you may want to look at the House Rabbit Society website’s rabbit vet listings. You may be able to find a good, rabbit-savvy vet who won’t be super expensive for you. Good luck and welcome again!

We used NIC grids for the levels of Porky’s condo.  No cutting wood required.  I did have to cut the materials I covered the grids in, but that was easily accomplished with kitchen shears.

Coming and building you a condo is actually kind of tempting being only semi-employed right now.  I live all the way in NJ though, so by the time you’ve compensated me for gas, paid for hotels around Elmira or Coning b/c I’m not a marathon driver, plus paid for the condo you could have renovated a whole room into a bunny room.

Really it’s pretty easy, if you don’t have the time to do it, just hire a local handiperson or student looking for odd jobs and show them directions online.

Welcome! I would love to see a pic of your bunny. The way you described its ears makes it sound so cute.
