Hi, we are new to house rabbit ownership and new to this forum!

We live in Portland, OR. and while I had rabbits growing up… they were outside rabbits. DH has never had a rabbit. As you can tell by reading my profile, we recently acquired Bun-Bun through rescue from our neighbors abandoning him when they moved. He is an intact, adult male rabbit at this time but we are looking to fix that(the intact part). He is a house rabbit and since we are new to house rabbits we are learning all we can!

We just bought him a hutch to use indoors this weekend and he is getting adjusted to that. He is a very sweet rabbit, calm and loving.

Can’t wait to post a bunch of questions that the books just aren’t answering!

Welcome and I’m glad he is getting to be part of a family that loves him and wants to spoil him. I’d love to see pictures of him.

First of all, it’s not “house rabbit ownership”… he will own you!!
Just to get you started on finding a vet (if you haven’t found one yet), rabbit.org has a list of vets all over the country that specialize in rabbits. Not all of the vets are listed on there though, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t find anything in your area or if you’re quoted a very high price. It can definitely be worthwhile to call around to vets you know and ask if they see rabbits on a somewhat regular basis and what their prices are for neuters! I’ve heard prices as high as $400 for a neuter, but eventually found a vet that did it for $65 and he was awesome!

Thanks! We got a list of vets at the Bunny meeting. None are close to us in Portland, so I am checking with the vets closer to us to see if they do rabbits. If not, we will drive to one that does.

And he owns us already!LOL Before he joined us….. I wanted a rabbit, hubby did not. I was working on him and had basically gotten him to agree that AFTER our family vacation we would check into it. But…… he stated that it would live outside, he would build it a nice hutch.

Well….. FF to Bun-Bun coming to live with us. The first full day, hubby was still insisting he would live outside after we got him clean and checked over. By day 2…. Bun-Bun was going to live inside and he needed a better cage….according to hubby! Of course it helped that while hopping around the floor, Bun-Bun decided to jump up in Hubby lap twice and snuggle with him! SUCKER!

Hi there

Monkeybun is apart of the Rabbit Advocates in Portland and she has a great vet to recommend.. I think she is on a trip right now, transporting Flemish Giants from one place to another…

Men do have a way of warming up to animals … funny, isn’t it?

Sweet! That is the meeting thing we went to on Saturday. They hold a once a month info/grooming/adoption event at Western Pet Supply, so cool to know that someone on here is part of them!

Welcome and Thank you for taking Bun-Bun in! That is so sad he was just left behind like that.

Monkeybun is pretty active on the boards here but she’s presently on a road trip. This is her vet recommendation in another thread earlier this year.

If this is not too close to you, perhaps you could call anyway and see if Dr Burgess can recommend someone in your area?

Ha! You saw me then! I was there volunteering that day I remember Bun-Bun! Such a handsome man, even with his poor paw.

I was the girl with the long blonde hair, covered in fur…. lol

Yep, I’m back! It was just an over night drive to Cali to drop off bunnies. Thursday I leave for 4 days though, with no internet where I am going (boo!)

Yep, checking people in was my job that day If there’s no vet on that list I gave you thats close enough for ya I can go hunting through the vet supply int he area (lol) and see if we can find you one closer.

But.. Dr. Burgess is my personal fav
