Hi! I filled out my profile in December, but I got busy and never got around to introducing myself.
My name is Charity, I am 25 years old and have been a bunny slave most of my life, lol. The other new member, Alvin (aka, Ava), is my sister’s bun. I love most animals (especially dogs and cats), but rabbits just seem to be extra special. Currently I only have my one bun, Gremlin, and one dog (Twister). I had inherited my grandma’s cat, but she passed away at the ripe old age of 25 last year. Twister is awesome with buns and kitties, but right now I am stuck in a no-pets allowed apartment (due to a quick move for a job) so he is hanging out in the country with my sister and her husband and cat (they play and sleep together ) until I can get a better place. Fortunately, my job was for a Kindergarten teaching position at a small Christian school, so I pushed my luck and asked if it would be all right to have a class pet, aka, a certain rabbit…and they were totally on board with it! So Gremlin is earning his keep as the totally awesome class pet (even the teenagers beg for him to be allowed to hop around their classroom).
I got Gremlin (his class name is Otto) off of Craigslist in May last year; a lady was given him as a gift but was really wanting a Flemish Giant instead of a Dwarf Hotot. So, she drove to Missouri from Kansas, got a baby Flemish from someone, and I met up with her on her way back and got to bring him home. He was 4 months old so should be around a year old now. He is not neutered, but if I eventually get a second bun then I would make sure they were both fixed first. He is an awesome bun! Being held is def not something he tolerates very well (hence my “no holding” rule in the class), but he is very social and loves being around people and being petted. He has never tried to bite, and if I dare pick him up when he gets put back down he just thumps his feet at me and demands a treat. Grem is litter-box trained and is also trained to go to his cage when I shake his treat bag. The children interact with him very well and love stealing pets from him when he goes up to them at their desks while I’m teaching (shh!). We have also discovered a favorite game he loves to play with a stick and yarn with a small plastic toy tied to the end, Grem loves to chase it and tries to grab it and tug it. So they will play with just like they would with a cat. Even the parents love him, and I have had some ask questions about rabbits and litter-box training them, they didn’t realize they can be house-pets.
Well, I hope the photos work, I’ve been having issues uploading pics because of the size and all of mine are too big so I will have to re-size some more later on. Glad to meet everyone!
