Hello again! I’ve been on before, but completely forgotten all my login details!
I’m a UK bunnymum, so anyone else out here, hi! (and if you have a good hay supplier, please let me know )
I’ve had Dylan lodging in my spare room for just over a year now (2 full moults worth, and don’t I know it!) and was thinking it might be time to get him a friend. No immediate plans, was mainly eyeing up rescue buns and sizing up my OH, then a girl at work heard me talking about my house rabbit and asked if I wanted another as she didn’t want hers. She thought he was about a year old, was pretty sure he was a he, not really an animal person blah blah…. I didn’t even ask if he was neutered – knew the answer to that one.
So, LJ moved in this afternoon.
I picked him up, took him straight to the vets for a check up, as he’s in the same room as Dylan, but in a cage on a desk for now. His teeth were NASTY ! front top incisors way out of control, bottom right broken clean off, and slight molar spurs on his right hand side. I’m so glad I hop on here from time to time otherwise I’d have been so freaked out! The vets trimmed off his incisors and said to keep an eye on them – if they get worse, stands to reason his back ones will too. He’s going back in a couple of weeks for the snip anyway so will get them to check again then. He also has mites from living outdoors in straw. Got treatment for that, but it’s going to be 6 weeks or so before it’s fully treated so no rush to neuter so I can introduce him to Dylan.
When I picked him up the girl said this was the first time pretty much since she got him that she’d picked him up – he’s been living in a barn on his own.
But the amazing thing – the whole time all these strange people were manhandling him, poking him, moving him in cars and filing off his teeth he was an absolute sweetheart. I feel I have myself a cuddle bun in the making. Plus, with Dylan being so big (french lop x giant continental) He HATES being picked up, and though he loves pets, doesn’t take well to prodding. If it was him with dental issues and such I really would be freaking out, but LJ seems so chilled out I’m not worrying about having to check his teeth weekly.
He’s settling in with his KFC (kentucky fried cereal – don’t worry, we’ll be weaning onto a pellet food in asap) in his new home, but will get some pics for you tmw when I’m cleaning the wound in his mouth from his teeth. Poor baby, I’m so glad I got him – can’t believe I was having second thoughts this morning.

p.s. LJ is short for Little John. Cos Dylan is so big. Hey, if my OH shows an interest in my fuzzbunnies…!
