Hello! This might be long, hope that’s ok!
I have been using this website constantly since i got my sweet bunny around 6 weeks ago! I have found it so helpful I decided it was time to make a profile and introduce myself. I’ve realized that people most people genuinely misunderstand rabbits and how amazing they are…so it’s great to connect with a group of people who understand why I’m wild about my bun!
I want to share Millie’s story, a disclaimer it’s sad (but with a good ending!) My name is Michele and I “rescued” a female Lionhead Rabbit around 6 weeks ago from a less than desirable situation. Her previous owners knew nothing about rabbits, they bought her for their 6 year old daughter, had her in a tiny, wire bottom dog crate balance over a storage tote with one small piece of cardboard to stand on and 2 metal bowls. One bowl for water and one bowl with very cheap quality grain. She had NO hay, NO veggies, NO exercise time. The woman who was advertising her needed to rehome her ASAP because the daughter had no interest in her anymore and the husband was giving her one week to find a new home or she was going to be “let out into the wild.” I had no plans to get a pet, I torture myself by browsing Craigslist and just happened upon the ad for the bun. As soon as the owner texted me a photo of her sitting sadly in the corner of this horrendous cage – I rushed over! I knew I had to save her! …..so that’s her story….and I know sadly many precious buns are in the same situation due to the ignorance of their owners.
I named her Millie-Mae but she often gets called Millie-Vanilly by my husband who has fallen in love with her. She’s approximately 6 months old (I don’t know her birthday), brown and gray now that she’s molted most of her brown wool. She has total run of the house when we are home and is in an large x-pen when we are not. She loves her tunnel and cardboard box hideouts I’ve made. She’s a chewer…and sneaky! She loves to run and binky and puts on a total show! (The Binky show is my favorite part of the day!) She is obsessed with grooming me, she licks my arms, legs, feet and nibbles on any rough skin – ha! She loves her veggies and hay, she’ll also do ANYTHING for a shredded wheat treat! I’ve taught her 2 tricks already – UP and walking on 2 feet. She was litter trained by day 2. She’s a little naughty but very sweet & enjoys head rubs. She’s not spayed yet, I have the appointment to have her spayed in 1 week…and I’m TERRIFIED! I know it’s the responsible thing to do – but I’m so scared I’ll lose her.
I want to thank everyone on this website for all the great information they provide! Millie and I are so happy to be here!
The last photo by her bowls is the day I brought her home.
