         Hello everyone!

Figured I’d say hi, just found this forum today and it seems pretty handy so I’ve joined.

I currently have a 5 month old male mini lop called Binky. I never planned on getting rabbits but i walked into a pet shop and fell in love with the little cute fluff ball when he was 9 weeks old.

Hes since had jabs and vet visits to make sure hes all well and good. Hes a very spoiled bun.

I’ve been a bit worried that he might be getting lonely when we’re at work/in bed so I’m going to get him a bunny friend very soon.

The pet shop has a mini lop/lionhead mix, female.

I’m tempted to get her and let them have one lot of kits before i get them both neutered/speyed.

So yeah, thats where things are now

Before you go to a pet shop try to look for a local rabbit rescue. Then bring your bunny in to see if he can find a bun he likes too so you dont have any fights. And welcom to the club!

I would advise against a litter of kits. there are far too many abandoned bunnies in shelters now as it is. And intentional breeding is a subject not permitted in the forums.

Wait to get the 2nd bun until your current one is neutered. Bunnies can’t bond properly with another until hormones are no longer a factor. Risk of injury is too high.

I agree, besides you need time to bond with bunny first to establish that trust.

The subject of intentional breeding is not allowed. There are lots of bunnies waiting in shelters for good homes. The shelter in your area can set up bunny dates which will find a bunny that your bunny will actually get along with. Are you 100% positive the kits would end up in good homes? Because that’s exactly how bunnies end up in shelters. I’m sorry, I know little bunnies are cute but they grow up very fast and there is no way to determine their behavior and personality. And pregnancies are dangerous and hard on the female bun, and often young bunnies will not take care of their kits. Please wait to adopt until your male bun is neutered. And then go to a rescue or shelter that does bunny dates, best way to find a life long bonded mate for your bunny (:

                p.s. Binky is beautiful!

Welcome : ) Binky is gorgeous!!! Irresistable! Are you in the UK?

I got my 1st rabbit the same way, a sponataneous purchase after I saw her in the pet shop. Thank goodness for books, the internet and especially this site, I was able to learn all the important stuff.

We’re pretty passionate about rabbits here and there are some things that are no-go topics (check out forum guidelines). Generally, we’re all here in the interest of making the lives better for our bunnies and to share the cuteness.

Bunnies certainly do enjoy company but it doesn’t always have to be of their own kind. They like routine and I’m betting Binky sleeps the day away while you are not around and is most active when you are there. They really only get active in short stints anyway. Not that I’m discouraging you getting a second at some point. They are very sweet to see together when bonded. Double trouble but still cute.

I agree Binky is a very handsome boy!

As others have mentioned the discussion of intentional breeding is not allowed here —

But we can help you with care and questions about Binky and bonding neutered/spayed bunnies.

Alrighty, I apologise for bringing up breeding, I should have checked rules before posting up. Won’t happen again. You’ve all definitely made me reconsider though, I’ll wait until hes neutered so that the whole situation is calmer.

Thanks for all your advice and thankyou for your comments on Binky <3 I must admit when i take him out to the vets (i have to get the bus) hes gets a looot of attention. I'm sure he'd give you all kisses for saying hes handsome

oh yes-jerseygirl-Yes i am from the UK

Binky is so cute! He’s giving me that ” you know I’m adorable” look in the pic. Welcome! I’ve also been pondering getting a bunny buddy for my bonbon after shes settled in after her spay. Arranging play dates at spcas and shelters is quite easy and they are overjoyed to do it. Plus they are usually neutered/spayed before you adopt.

He’s so cute! He looks like quite a character!!!

These first months are very special. I waited almost a year before getting my girl, Meadow, a bonded mate. And we are so much closer for the time we had alone together. Chances are, when you’re out of the house, he’s just hanging out or sleeping. I doubt he is lonely.

Oh I forgot to ask, what kind of lop is Binky? I’ve never seen one with that coloring

As far as i know hes just a regular mini-lop. He has the these markings (tan on back of neck, white stomach, chin and bottom of tail.) Been trying to figure out how to best describe him.

After doing a bit of research he seems to be this:
Chinchilla (cause hes grey) agouti (cause of the bands of colour in his fur, grey and brown) otter (cause of his white belly/chin/tan neck)

Chinchilla agouti otter mini lop. Complex git. Lol

LOL well, the colors don’t quite work like that Chinchilla is actually called that due to each hair having 4 bands (in particular colors) on it   And Chinchilla is Aghouti. I think he’s an Opal Otter? look at this bun – http://www.bunniehouse.com/P4250053.JPG
Rabbit color genetics is really fascinating, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on it lately.
He is SO cute though! I demand more photos!

Hmm after doing some more reading I think you’re right. That bun does look an awful lot like it has the same fur and markings!

And okay heres so more photos for you. Hope you don’t mind this many!

Back when I first got him (9weeks old)

                                        And now:

                                        All flopped out

And an accidental photo as he hopped off lol

Please excuse the mess, he likes kicking his sawdust everywhere lol. When i move in a few weeks i’m going to get/make him one of those cages made out of the wire squares so he has more space when we’re not in (and put carpet down instead of sawdust and litter train him properly, hes a teen bun at the mo and has started pooping outside of his box in rebellion, lol!). Don’t worry the cage door is left open between 4 and 10 hours a day!

The litter is just sawdust/wood shavings i got from the pet store, you can use it for hamsters/guinea pigs and rabbits

(thought after doing some reading just now i’m going to change product i think, there has been debate on the safety on pine/cedar shavings. can’t wait to move so he wont have bedding everywhere anyway)

Try carefresh, or even shredded newspaper the shavings can cause respiratory issues so yes good idea to change them !

and also I second getting rid of the shavings, they really aren’t safe. Is there a reason you aren’t litter training now? It’s harder to do the longer they get used to just going everywhere IME.
