I am a fairly new bunny mommy and am excited to learn all I can and find a place I can go to for advice! Missy is my new baby and I’ve had her for four days now. I had a bunny several years ago when I was a teenager, but I am just getting finished with college and living outside of campus so I am able to have pets again. Missy has been doing wonderful so far and we are working on making sure she keeps going in her litterbox and learns where she can and cant go and what not to eat. She is learning so fast and actually listens to me when I tell her not to do something. Her first vet appointment is next week to get a check up and make sure she is a girl, lol. I originally went looking at local breeders and pet stores, and then I found her at a local Rural King, which is kind of like Tractor Supply Co., I’m not sure if Rural King is nationwide or not. I had been researching getting a rabbit for a while now and so when I saw the condition they had her in I had to get her. She refuses to drink out of her bottle, only a bowl, but they only had a bottle for her. Her cage was too tiny and had a wire bottom with no place for her to rest her feet and no litter box. She had no toys and had to sit in the middle of a giant drafty store all day. She warmed up to me and everyone around her very quickly and is doing extremely well now, Sorry if this ended up like a book but I had to brag a little on her in there

It doesn’t look like she has any hay in her cage. She definately needs a lot of hay and a lot less pellets. Hay is absolutely essential for bunnies. How old is she? If she is still really young you can feed her alfalfa hay, but if she is older she needs like timothy hay or orchard grass hay or something like that.

Her pellets are made from timothy hay, then her chew blocks are compressed timothy hay. I do want to get some loose hay for her too though. I’m not sure exactly how old she is, I asked the guy who got her for me all kinds of questions but all he could tell me is that they have a rabbit breeder that they get their rabbits from and he brings them in when they’re old enough to sell :s.He was completely clueless about rabbits. But I would guess that she is only a couple months old. I’ve been giving her different greens to try but I don’t want to overload her tummy giving her a ton of new things at once because the store didn’t have anything for her to eat except pellets.

Definitely get her some hay, pellets and hay cubes aren’t adequate for a bunny.

Agreed. Hay cubes are mostly treat things, and pellets don’t count as hay. She needs lots of fresh loose hay to keep her tummy going

We just got back from shopping and she has lots of hay to munch on as well as a new bed and lots and lots of greens now. I got her two different kinds of lettuce, then a bunch of parsley and cilantro. I didn’t know that the hay cubes were only for a snack, I thought it was to help her keep her teeth wore down and that it was healthy :S She has lots of options now! I put the hay and greens in her food bowl and kept the bottom filled with some pellets

If that’s her in your avatar photo, Missy is adorable – that dark fur looks velvey soft and she certainly is making up in that snuggie for having to have her little twinkletoes on wire before – yuck! Thank you for rescuing her and many many long years of fun and love to you both!

oh she’s so adorable i love little black bunnies! I also recently got a new bun just a tip with the greens, make sure you start off slowly or they can get the runs or squishy poo which isn’t good for them!
