        Hi,

Im new, im so pleased i found a bunny forum!!

My hubby surprised me with a bunny about 4 months ago. Im not sure what breed she is – will post a pic as soon as i can. She is black and white and her name is Miss Mastashianna.

She is very naughty, loves to chew, dig, thump her feet, lick and nip - this is my first bunny so i am not really sure with rabbit  behaviour. She ownes everything based on her chinning!!  She is partially litter trained – still work in progress Loves cuddles, and rolled oats.

She is not spayed – i am still trying to work out if it is worth desexing her? From what i can gather from websites i have looked at she is just coming into being a teenage bunny – i think her age is around 6 months.

Will be great to get to hear from other experianced bunny owners!

        Cheers

Welcome Chow! You are on the right forum! I have learned A LOT from people on here. I, and many others on this site will tell you that it is absolutely essential that you get her spayed. Female rabbits will develop uterine cancer in the first 1-3 years of thier life and it is always fatal. The risk is very high. If you want your bunny to live for a long time (and they can) then you need to have her spayed. It is expensive. It depends on where you live but we have found that the normal price for the surgery is $350-$400. You should research rabbit uterine cancer as well. Also, you do not want to live with an unspayed bunny! They are very territorial, destructive, and down right mean! Females are usually ready by 6 months of age. Dwarfs will mature faster.

it cost me around $250ish to spay my little Monkey. Well worth it. I’d like to have her around longer than 3 years thats for sure! She is also much mroe pleasant to have around.. she isn’t quite as temperamental as she used to be :p

                Welcome to BB!

Well its a funny thing about where she came from.
My has a friend of a freind that breed rabbits and sell the babies to python owners to eat. Yeah i know! Terrible. Clint asked them to keep one out for me. My baby dose not know how lucky she is!!
I have seen a couple of pics on here of buns with almost identical colouring as she is – as soon as i get the net at home i will put up some pics.

I think i will get her desexed. I live in Australia, i have to investigate the prices here and find a vet who knows what they are doing. It just seems major surgery for a little bun!! :s

But yes i do want her to have a long and health life, and it might help out with the litter training?

There are a few people on here that live in australia. Depending on where you are, they could direct you to a good vet

Welcome!  I got lucky on spaying & neutering…got my 2 bunz from our local shelter and they require fixing all bunz prior to adoption.  They only ask for a $35.00 “donation” for each bunny.  We got Gulliver @ 9mos & Lainey @ 6mos. and what fun!  Make sure you read up in the other sections, especially about their diet.  My brother had a bunny prior to Gulliver & Lainey so we thought we knew most everything…NOPE!  They are amazing animals.  I can sit for hours just waiting for that one special binky or sign of affection…however I’m lucky and rarely need to wait too long.  I think after becoming a member of BB, I have a whole new life with our bunz…, Enjoy!

                              Wow

I payed $135 for ChaCha’s spay. But the vet always keeps bunnies for 2 extra days, no extra cost. He makes sure the bunnies are content.
