Hi!

I am totally new to forums in general, and a new member of BinkyBunny (so it is taking me awhile to figure this all out!)

I have absolutely loved this online community and as a first time bunny owner have found it such a helpful resource. I had read and studied about rabbits for over a year, and interacted with bunnies often, but bringing one home suddenly opened up all these application questions! Especially about understanding what this little guy was doing any why. The practical, kind, and varied advice found here is really stellar. 

My husband and I have one bunny (Pip) a 9 month sable point holland lop. I am realizing as I write this that we have only had Pip for a few months! And now he is such a part of our family and home that is so crazy to think! 

Pip is neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, and overall a lovable, laid back, sweet boy. He is deaf, which has been an additional learning curve, but it seems to be more of a “blessing” than a curse as he never gets startled by loud noises and could care less about the vacuum. He has good litter habits, and adjusts well to new situations.

I have few greater pleasures than seeing Pip stretch, flop, and of course, binky! Even though the affection is fairly one sided, I always feel very privileged when he wants me to pet and love on him. This little guy has my heart, and I’m looking forward to better understanding how to grow our trust, understanding, and hopefully give him the healthiest, happiest, life possible.

Welcome. Such a great introduction. Loved hearing about it all. Congratulations on Pip. Very smart and responsible of you to prepare so for little Pip. I’m interested to know if you knew going in that Pip was deaf or if you found out on your own. And they do, so quietly and almost instantly, weave themselves into the very fabric of your life. It sounds like he already is and will continue to have one absolutely fantastic bunny life full of love and happiness. Congratulations again and nice to meet another wonderful couple of bunny parents with bun in tow!

Indeed, deafness can be a positive thing. No craziness at every bag crinkle, haha. It’s great that Pip has so readily become a part of your family.

More pics to come once I figure out formatting issues! I know I’m biased, but I think he is possibly the cutest thing in all creation. =)

No, we didn’t know he is deaf until after a couple of weeks of him living with us (which was why my work to teach him his name wasn’t working at all!) The vet seems to agree with us regarding his deafness, as he doesn’t respond to any sound, but we didn’t do any further testing. He can obviously be spooked more easily if he doesn’t see/smell you’re there! but now that we know it’s much better. Makes for a chill bun for sure!

I have been wondering: If I can’t find the answer to a question, do I enter it as a “new topic” under the appropriate forum? I’ve been a bit worried about messing up the rules.
