Hello from my bunnies and me!  My name’s Alyssa and I’m new here to the forum but not to BinkyBunny – my girls love getting boxes of treats and goodies in the mail!  Their all time favorite is the Bunny Boquet Hay Topper

I haven’t looked much at the forum section here before, but I’m in the process of building one of those “cube” bunny cages and found myself looking around here.  Someone in the family decided they’re alergic to hay!  So hay has to stay in the sun room now and they are caged in their together for a portion of each day (they had the run of my room before).  Being that the situation was urgent, I bought a traditional cage from the pet store for them without any research or shopping around.  I quickly realized that it wasn’t going to be a suitable home for even one of my girls, let alone two of them!  So any tips or links to info. anyone has found helpful in the building process are very welcome!

And without further ado here are my girls!  They were both rehomes and have been with me for about a year and a half now.  They sure tought me what it means to have bunnies!  The most distructive and mischivious little fluff balls ever!!  But I love them dearly They love to sit outside with me while I do school work.

This is Casper!  She is the more docile of the two but ironically also seems to have developed some dominance over Thumper.  Before I had them spayed it was the other way around

And here is my Thumper girl.  She’s absolutely gorgeous, but isn’t as willing to cooperate as Casper is most of the time.  But that’s okay She has gotten much better at letting me take care of the necessities, i.e., nail trimming and brushing.  I used to towl her when it was nail trimming time but with some time, treats, and training she’s learned to “sit pretty” for me and let me do it without the towl!  So proud of her!

Look forward to seeing you all around the forum!

Thanks so much for sharing that.  Neat idea making it a sort of pen and tiered cage in one!  I will certainly be keeping your idea in mind as I’m making mine

You could always try different varieties of hay, too Orchard grass is popular for people who are allergic to timothy hay. Oat hay is great too

Bunnyduck: Yours looks great! What material did you use for the flooring on the levels? I see there’s fleece on top, but what’s covering the grids? I was thinking of just doing all expens, but I love how much you can fit into a relatively compact space with the condos.

Indeed!  Thanks, I hadn’t thought of that really.  The hay triggered the allergies is their timothy based mixed grass hay.   I’m able to get it by the bale here locally so it saves on the $$$.  I tried getting a pure timothy bale elsewhere to see if that made a difference, because we thought maybe it was something in the “mixed” part causing the allergies, but unfortunately it didn’t help!  And of course the bunnies weren’t so thrilled with all the extra goodness missing.

I sneak hand fulls of orchard grass for them  now and then while they’re out in the house, it’s more of a treat for them though – thought I was just being naughty naughty bringing it inside, but now I can say no! Maybe you’re not allergic to that kind!! Good to know! We haven’t tried oat hay before! I’ll have to look into it

That’s the truth!  They were NUTS before.  I think that’s why their previous owner didn’t want them anymore I unfortuantely didn’t bother to ask if they were spayed or not when she dropped them off, but it became very clear very quickly they weren’t!!  They were okay for the first week or so but after that it was a nightmare for a while!  They would fight with each other, go to the bathroom everywhere, bite, bite, bite!  Hormones were obviously raging!

And who knew spaying could be so costly!?! Oh my goodness – not me, that’s for sure!  I wasn’t sure what to do!  I remember calling around with my face in shock at the cost between the two of them!  It made all the difference in the world though getting it done.  I think we are all happier!

I used four bits of chloroplast/corrugated plastic that I got from home depot. I think I would of preferred to use wood or something but I was looking for cheap at the time.
