I am owned () by two rabbits: A three-year old rex mix named Emeralda (Essie) and a two-year old wooly mix named Marge. Essie is fiesty but sweet “Queen” most of the time, and Marge is a fiesty but sweet “Emperess” (or, at least that is how she acts ). Both are not fixed (or whatever the term is for females; I can never remember which term to which gender ). I love both of my bunnies, but they hate each other. I was very excited when I learned that rabbits can learn to bond because I had always heard two bunnies could never learn to bond.

I have joined this website in the hopes to learn more how to take care of my precious bunnies.

          Hello!
It is definitely important to spay (or fix ) your ladies. Female rabbits have an 80% chance of getting uterine cancer by the age of 2 if left unspayed! Yikes! Also, it will be virtually impossible to bond them without them being spayed. Females tend to be a bit more aggressive than males and they can have completely devastating fights. You will need to get them both spayed before any interaction happens. Rabbit.org has a list of recommended rabbit-savvy vets, although they aren’t all of them. Make sure you call around to a few different places about prices because some vets do it for considerably higher! The average cost for a spay is usually around $150-200, but one vet quoted me at $400.
Once they’ve been spayed, give them about a month for those hormones to die down and then you can start the bonding process. I would start at here:
          http://www.saveabunny.org/rabbitcare/bonding-guide
          https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/BondingInfo/tabid/63/Default.aspx
And then any other questions you have can generally be answered on the board.

Thanks. The main reason we haven’t had them spayed is that we don’t know of any good bunny vets around our area. They have a regualr vet who knows more about them than the other vets around us.

It can be so difficult to find a good vet. Try that rabbit.org website. There’s also another rabbit community site called Bunspace.com They have quite a few vets listed in their databases! You could also google “exotic vets (city where you live)”. Good luck!

Welcome and I can’t wait to see pictures of your two girls. You may have to drive a little distance to find a good vet for their spay. My exotics vet is about an hour and a half away. It’s a drive but I wouldn’t trust Gabby with anyone else.
