Hi! My name is Julie, and I finally gave into making an account for this adorable bunny forum. I’m currently in a PhD program and have been taking to looking at/reading about bunnies to ease myself of stress- why not go to a more interactive source?
My bunny’s name is Anaïs, she is a Holland Lop. I’ve had her since July, but she is more than a year old. I was given Anaïs by a friend who could not juggle flying home and asking someone to take care of her, so I adopted her as I was going to get a bunny anyway. Anaïs has been a great companion as I strive through this really difficult program, and I’m so happy that I can come home to her every day.
However, Anaïs herself is a bit of a princess! She won’t eat her hay if it is 2 hours old (it’s too dry!) and she’s always trying to get her paws on her pellets. She loves to beg for banana bites or pomegranate seeds when she sees me cutting them up, and sometimes I just can’t resist her charm. Also, she hates to be picked up! I’ve been working on it for a really long time with her now and Anaïs still won’t let me hold her. It’s a process!
But she’s still cute. Playtime includes following me around from the bathroom to the kitchen like my shadow. She loves running through her cat tunnel (bunny tunnels were too small) and digging in her dig box that I made for her. Actually, a lot of her possessions were diys of mine- made her a dig box out of a cardboard box and lots of shopping ads- Anaïs enjoys jumping into the box from the top and burying herself inside. Before she used to make a mess out of her litter box every day, so I finally wired it to her cage- no more mess! And my new diy is a soda bottle feeder that I saw on Pinterest. Anaïs always makes a mess of her hay by spreading it all over the cage (and then subsequently forgetting about it, or mistaking it for litter). Today was the trial run- it seemed to work, except Anaïs got over zealous and make a lot of noise getting the hay out. A few more tweaks and I’m sure it will be fine.
Her favorite activity of all, of course, is being pet on the head.
She only has a cage to live in, since I live in a 300 sq ft apartment (small I know, but heat and electricity were free)- there’s no real room for a pen or a bunny condo. But it seems to work just fine for our needs! While I’m home I generally leave the cage door open, except for at night when I’m asleep. Recently I accidentally left the door open while I was in class for 3 hours; I came home to see that Anaïs did NOT wreck the place! I was very proud. I may try to start leaving the door open at night, but I get worried about what she gets up to while I’m not paying attention.
Unfortunately Anaïs does not let me take very good pictures of her, but there are a few on my profile’s album if anyone’s interested. I hope to share lots of bunny stories here and have a good time! Nice to meet you!
