Hi! My name is Jess, and Im 15 years old. I just joined a few minutes ago, so I thought I should introduce my self!

Ive had rabbits for about 10 years, and my black and white Dutch named Smudge is my absolute baby! Hes definatly a spoiled little thing, LOL. He turns 6 years old on September 6th, and I can wait to celebrate another birthday with him… and buy him lots of awesome presents of course!

My sister also has a 7 year old black and white Dutch names Oreo. He isnt fixed though (Smudge is) so they dont live together, although they enjoy seeing each other once in a while.

I adopted Smudge from someone who bred show rabbits that didnt want him because he is “mismarked” and unshowable. He has a black spot on his white lip, and a white spot on his black tummy… So thats how he got his name! They originally called him Switch, but I liked Smudge better.

Lately, Smudge has been having some problems with molar spurs and watery eyes, and Its getting really stressful and expensive. After he got his spurs trimmed, his eyes are still watering. Hes been on Baytril for 2 weeks, and Ive been giving him eye oitment for about a week. Just thought I should update everyone on that, because Ill probably be posting about it!

Anyway, and cant wait to meet other bunny lovers!

        ~Jess

Welcome Jess. Lucky for you he had those smudges. Imperfect for them, perfect for you. He’s lovely! Sorry to hear he’s having teeth problems. Often the watery eye and teeth are related because of the tooth root. Did you vet do any xrays?

                    Thank you everyone!
Jerseygirl- He had 2 X-rays before he was fixed (to make sure his lungs where OK), but I dont remember if they included his head or not… Im pretty sure they didnt.
Anyway, if his antibiotics dont clear this up (Hes done with this round on Tues.) then head X-rays are probably the next step, unless I get more antibiotics or something. I have a feeling that it isnt the molar root though, because both eyes have been watering on and off, and get better with the antibiotics… Well, Im hoping it isnt his roots at least. Im calling the vet on Tuesday, so Ill see what he recomends I do next.
And Ill post the whole story about his eyes tomarrow. What I said in my original post was just the short and quick version!

                            Hey Jess,
                            Smudge is adorable.
My little Dutch boy is Winston. He is 3.

                              Thanks everybody!
He usually doesnt sleep in his beds- He just likes playing with them and “fluffing” them up, or sitting in them to observe me cleaning his cage. Haha
He seems to like his hammock better, or just sleeping on his blankie! Smudge is really weird and picky when it comes to his toys and stuff.

I just noticed that in one of the photos he is wearing a collar. I’m guessing since it is only in one photo this is not common.

But – just so you know – bunny’s can get their jaw on one of their limbs caught in collars and get seriously hurt. Although not a bad idea if he is having supervised play time outside.

My Winston prefers the bunny 500 to toys. He is picky too!

OH wow what a perfect b shape white on his face.  Lovely.  I see a hint of the black spot on his lip there.

Glad to hear you are delighted with him and of course have spoiled him.

                                  Get well wishes for Smudge.

He usually doesnt wear his collar, unless hes outside or Im watching him closely The bell helps me keep track of him, LOL!
But Ive figured out how to adjust it so its tight enough that he can chew it or get his paw caught in it, and its loose enough so that I can still fit 2 fingers in it

If he’s good with the collar on, you can maybe try him out with a bunny harness then. Much safer for buns to wear, and you can probably get a bell for it too

Welcome to Binkybunny! I am no expert, but I think that Smudge is PERFECT. LOL! He looks like a sweet guy. I’m sorry to hear he’s having some teeth issues, but this is a common thing among rabbits, especially as they get older. Keep us updated on how he does after the antibiotics…

                                        Feel better Smudge!

What a handsome bunny- I had Dutch rabbits when I was a kid and they had the best personalities!  Of course now I have converted into a “lop eared bunny lover”- for some reason I can not resist lop ears.  But Dutch bunnies are awesome and a great size.
