Today I got told that my bunny is a hermaphrodite. He was definitely a male and got neutered last year. His testicles were dropping and he had a penis. A few days ago I felt a little lump on the side of his belly so I looked at it and I spotted his weird looking genitalia which looked like a….vagina. Renowned rabbit researcher Esther van Praag suggests it could be a nipple and he actually does look like a female down there. I’m so confused about what do now. Is he female now because he got desexed last year? Do I need to spay her/him? In Germany we don’t spay rabbits because of the risk associated with surgery. I don’t know what to do. I plato get him a partner in the future – what sex should I get?
As for his personality he has always been very vocal and sassy. Now I’m thinking it may have been due to the hormones all a long? Has anyone had experiences with hermaphrodites?
I’m still planning to get it checked by out a local vet, maybe it’s just skin growth and he is still male.
