Hello,
My rabbit has had a scab above his nose for about 3 weeks. I’ve taken him to the vet twice for it. The vet said it doesn’t look like mites or a nasal infection, because it’s just in that one place, and it was probably an injury from digging or something. Also my other rabbit doesn’t have this problem.
The first time, the vet filled up some medicine in a little bottle, that I was supposed to apply 2x daily to the wound (not labeled, don’t remember the name). The rabbit really hated when I did this and would try to wipe it off immediately.
After a week the wound looked about the same, so I went back to the vet. This time I told him about the rabbit hating the medicine, and then he gave me something to make it not itchy, called easotic (hydrocortisone/miconazole/gentamicine). I applied it once daily for a week, and the rabbit still wanted to wipe it off. Even the other rabbit tried to groom his face.
Now I have read that it is ok to use regular neosporin on rabbits. I tried it once, but he wiped it, too. Now I don’t know what to do. It’s getting expensive going to the vet every week, just to get some medicine that the bunny wipes off. When he wipes it, he scratches the scab, so it doesn’t have a chance to heal. Should I just leave him alone and see if it gets better with no medicine? Or what do you recommend?
