Help with my two new mini lops!

Hi everyone! I am new to Binky Bunny so not sure if this is the right forum to ask but I would love some advice on my two new 9 week old mini lops bunnies. I have a doe and a buck (brother and sister!) We brought them home 3 days ago at times they have let us stroke them but others they seem to hate it and run away instantly. Occasionally they will come to our hand and ‘nose boop’ it and on one occasion our doe stoop on her back legs and nose booped my nose! They binky a lot of the time and often flop on to the floor! They are using their litter tray but also pooping everywhere else!! We had them on our bed the other day (which they seemed to love) but they weed! Just unsure as to why some days they seem to be OK with being petted and others seem to absolutely hate it. Also why sometimes they will immediately come to the door to see us and others no matter how much we call them, they stay at the back of the hutch laid together. Any advice would be so appreciated as we are new to bunnies! Thank you so much in advance Laura x

Welcome when you get new bunnies the first week it’s best to not force any interactions – do your clean up and feeding etc as you would but let them adjust – it’s a big transition to a new home. Also bunnies take awhile to trust you , after that week things you can do to help this included not picking them up ( most bunnies hate picked up ) and lay on the floor with them and let them explore you. The more quiet time with unforced movements the more the trust will grow.
As for the pee on the bed – that’s common. Lots of bunnies will pee on beds or blankets when learning as they are soft areas. Just avoid them being on those places until litter trained.

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny! You will very soon need to separate your bunnies, as they are approaching puberty and you will be dealing with surprise litters if they are kept together much longer. You can also be dealing with fighting and injuries. You may want to go ahead and separate them now, just to be safe, instead of waiting a week or two. After they have had their spay and neuter surgeries, and a month or so has passed, you can start the permanent bonding process. Until that can happen, don’t even let them out for play or exercise at the same time. It only takes a few seconds for a pregnancy to occur. Some people don’t even see when it happened.

Here are 2 good articles on bonding. Your bunnies only have a temporary baby bond now, not a true bond. That will only come after spay and neuter and a bonding routine.

Bunnies like to pee on soft things, like beds. It’s best to keep them off of there until they have been litter trained. It’s usually not too easy to completely litter train a rabbit until they have been spayed or neutered.
