My little mocha is 3 and a half years old and is the sweetest bunny ever and isn’t skittish at all with people but for some reason she occasionally has these panic attacks over random things. This morning, our power went off and the sudden silence scared her and she freaked out and threw herself around the sides of her x-pen and ended up ripping one of her nails.
It’s saturday so we couldn’t take her to the vet until at least Monday but I’m worried because she keeps licking it and won’t put much weight on it. The nail isn’t completely off, it’s just broken and I can tell it’s hurting her. Its not bleeding though but the nail is kinda going slightly horizontal now across the top of her foot. She won’t let me touch it either because I was trying to clean it and put some (non-painkiller) neosporin on it but she yanks her foot away if I even slightly touch it. I don’t want it to get infected before we get her into the vet and was wondering if anyone had any tips or has had this happen before.
Also if anyone has a bunny that has panic attacks like that I could use tips for that too because we don’t know how to prevent them
She means so much to me and is my baby. I just want her to feel better.

It sounds like just the outer nail broke. Just because the quick wasn’t exposed (i.e. blood everywhere), it doesn’t mean that the nerve isn’t close to the surface. That means what is left (not the broken nail itself) is sensitive. It doesn’t surprise me that she is favoring it. If there was no blood, I think the possibility of infection is pretty low. I know she doesn’t want you to touch it, but you might try to clean the area if you get the chance. I don’t think it will hurt to wait until Monday to take her to the vet. The only thing to worry about at the moment is her getting that broken nail caught on something.
