I adoped a dwarf couple a while back, I love them! But Bea the female that is spayed has started attacking Rascal (her mate) and I. She lunges, scraches and bites! Could this be a hormonal problem even though she is fixed? Could it be old age?

Please help I am worried about her and my little boy!

        Thanks~Sugarbuns

Sorry to hear about your buns fighting …. How long have you had your bunnies and have you had any problems with them before? Are they a bonded pair?

Personally I would separate them to prevent further fighting and possible injury. I am not much of an expert, but have you tried to take them for a car ride together, perhaps when things have settled down.

Have you been with other bunnies or animals of any kind … the scent on you maybe upsetting Bea. I know this a lot of questions, but it may prompt another poster to enlighten you on your situation. Any change in the household that you can possibly think of, or differences in Bea’s environment.

I will post to the forum leaders to advise them of your concerns, who in turn can provide further assistance with your situation.

welcome to binkybunny – Brandylv’sbuns! There’s nothing scarier than fighting bunnies.

So, your buns are both neutered and have been together as a bonded pair for a while now? How long have they been living with you as a pair?

Has anything changed in the house? New people, new furniture? Are both bunnies healthy? I’ve heard of some bunnies that fight because one of them is sick. Has the fighting been on-going or has it just started?

I would recommend checking Rascal over to make sure he doesn’t have any injuries. It may be that you’ll need to seperate them and then work on rebonding, but if you’ll share some more information on them it might help us put together the puzzle.

I have had them as a pre-bonded pair for 5 months, I believe thay are 5-7 years old and Bea is older then him,When we adopted them
she always had a DIVA personality, but this is almost scary. I could’nt even feed her like I always do this morning, she just freaks out! You can just see anger in her, and after awhile she’s fine.
No new changes and her attitude problems came almost two months after Rascals health scare. She jis just in and out of this rage like black and white. We have them seprate whenever we are not around and she is more aggressive to me, rascal dose not defend him self so I always have him apart when we cant watch. ___She is so aggressive and always in the morning.
              Thanks for you help~~~Sugarbuns

Welcome Brandylv’sbuns! Sorry it took me so long to reply. I"m playing catch up after a vacation.

Sudden aggression can be due to health issues, so it might be a good idea ot have a check up.
Was your other bunny at the vet at any point – you said Rascal’s health scare. If so, sometimes when one bunny goes to the vet, they come back smelling "funny" and it can create a fight – and unbonding can happen.

You said she is aggressive in the morning – Is this when you  usually feed her?  I know you said you couldn’t even feed her in the am, so did you change her feeding schedule and did her aggression also change to that schedule?   Does she seem to get more aggressive when she thinks she going to get food ?
