My poor baby bunny Goddrick Hes 1 month old isn’t feeling too well he started acting funky yesterday his momma passed away 2 weeks after he was born. He was doing just fine but then didn’t want to eat. He also hasn’t pooed so I decided I would take him to the pet hospital. They told me he was too small for me to do anything do they diagnosed him with him with GI Stasis and sent me home with pain meds and critical care and a dewormer just in case. Yesterday I had to force feed him he was lethargic but still wanted to play around. I ended up calling a breeder for a second opinion she said he seemed perfectly fine he’s not dehydrated but his belly does have gas also said it could be worms so she gave me some formula and pellets just in case. Today goddrick was doing much better. He was playing around more ate a little bit of hay but I still have been syringe feeding him and also giving him symethicone and belly rubs. He ended up pooing clear jelly with really small poos. I’m not ready to say goodbye to him idk what else to do Im scared and sad. Please help!

I’m sorry you are going through this. Its good that there are other poops apart from the jelly diarrhea.

What type of dewormer was he given? It’d be wisest to contact the vets again, because when a very young bun presents with diarrhea, coccidiosis should always be considered. Coccidia are intestinal parasites that need antibiotic treatment. The bun can also lose fluids very fast if there’s ample diarrhea, and that is of course very dangerous. Because he’s already been to see the vet, you could just call them and ask what they think.

You have been doing really great so far. It’s not at all easy to rear a rabbit this young. A bunny that loses its mum at the tender age of 2 weeks has an extra sensitive gut because he didn’t get to suckle for as long as he should. This mean his gut isn’t fully armed with the right type and amount of the important microorganisms that help the rabbit digest its food. You can give a probiotic, for example benebac, to help his gut bacteria. This would be a good idea also if your vet prescribes antibiotics for him.

          Many healing-vibes for ((((Goddrick))))

You should try to contact a rabbit savvy vet only for bunnies. See if you can find a rabbit savvy ER vet to help you. Poor little thing!

I’m glad to hear he’s doing better! Keep up your good work and keep a close eye, he will be vulnerable for quite some time yet.
