        Hi guys,

Recently I found that Marshmallow has been drinking ~ 150-200 mL of water everyday. He urinates a lot as a result of that. I use pee pads to absorb his urine and found that I had to change it twice daily as his urine would soak the entire pee pad. His urine used to only be about 2 fist sized patches (weird comparison haha), so I’m quite worried.

We live in Singapore so it is hot and humid all the time, but recently the temperature got a little colder. I also noticed his ears are quite cold to touch (around my body temperature but slightly lower?). I would like to know if it’s a cause for concern. But anyways I’ll be bringing him to the vet this Sunday (which is ~ 1-2 days away  )

Hi! Bunnies actually can drink that much water a day as that is depending on their weight, a maintence dose(the water needed to live per day).

He should be checked out for molar issues as drinking water helps allievate the pain, a kidney or bladder infection or he might just not be getting enough veggies so he’s drinking a lot to compensate for it.

Have you been able to actually take his temperature with a thermometer? Buns can often have their ears cold, it’s how they regulate their temperature

          Keep us updated!

Hmm, that does sound like a lot of water for most bunnies. But it isn’t an insane amount of water. Normal water intake is 50-150 mL/kg (according to petMD). So he isn’t that much over the upper limit of normal.

This makes me think nothing sinister (e.g. kidney failure, diabetes, etc.) is going on here. It is probably something more simple. Has he been molting lately? I do agree with Bunny House that his teeth should be checked. Otherwise, it could just be the environment.

I just checked and his teeth are ok, other than excessive drinking and urinating, everything seems ok. He is currently molting now, could it be the cause?

Only a vet can see his molars. They have to use an otoscope to see that far back.

Molting might be causing the drinking.
