Starting this morning, my rabbit has been peeing bright yellow and I looked more closely and it is thick yellow and it is not as much urine as she usually pees. Could this be sludge? She has a full water bowl every day..

It doesn’t sound like sludge, it sounds like urine with calcium deposit. Rabbits should eliminate extra calcium via the urine. If she’s had kale or spinach or dandelion or parsley, there’s lots of calcium in those vegs. Look at this article for great pictures and info about sludge vs normal calcium residue in pee:

You can help her increase her water intake by serving her greens freshly rinsed and dripping wet.

I added a picture, I’m not sure why it didn’t upload w/ the original post.

It’s probably either too much calcium or due to the introduction of a new type of food. What’s her diet like?

My lop had cloudy yellow urine and it was due to a kidney infection as she is prone to it. So your bun can always be tested for a uti with a simple test and then treatment can be administered.

She gets a small portion of pellets in the morning and evening, at night she gets a bowl of romaine lettuce, rainbow chard, and a combo of either tomatoes, blackberries, bell pepper, squash, blueberries, etc.

Fruits including tomatoes, berries etc. should be given just as a treat (about 2-3 times a week is good) since they are high in sugar. Perhaps you could try controlling their diet to see if the pee colour changes?

Just want to note that chard is on the list of veggies that should not be fed everyday. Check out the Bunny Info section here on BB for a complete list of safe everyday vegetables.

Yes kale and chard shouldn’t be given everyday, especially for a bun who is often getting UTIs

Thank you all! I have read so many different articles on what they can eat and what they can’t, and all give different answers. What are some vegetables that are okay to give every day? I am trying to only give her pellets in the AM and ween her off of them in the PM, substituted for vegetables, lettuce, etc.

Some everyday veggies that I give are Romaine or Green Leaf Lettuce, Dandelion, Carrot Tops, Endive, Arugula, Cilantro and Bok Choy. I try to rotate and give 3 different veggies a day.
