for my birthday my boyfriend got e a jersey wooly dwarf rabbit. I have a polish dwarf already, so I am not used to brushing the fur of a wooly. I watched some videos and got a ton of brushes. one night as I watched a movie she sat firmly in my lap and I brushed out the many many many mats I found in her fur. she was super tangled up and fur came out easily in clumps. but now by her legs, there’s pretty large bald spots showing her pink skin and it is starting to get dry and the skin looks a little flaky. I am beating myself up about it because I was grooming her incrementally while watching a movie and felt I wasn’t being attentive enough since I didn’t notice I was possibly ripping out so much of her fur that I may have thought was matted but instead was normal fur? idk is this normal and does that take a long time to grow back? she is eating drinking and acting totally normal. I am just paranoid and nervous I did soemthing wrong… I didn’t have a blow-dryer either to use just the brushes. I just moved so I don’t have one yet lol. any advice is appreciated!

This can happen when you groom a bunny. The fur was loose or shed not have accepted it without protest. It’s just something to keep in mind for next time. You can put a tiny little bit of barrier cream on the exposed skin, for example Vaseline or bees wax cream. Within 1-2 weeks you’ll see peachy fuzz on the bald spots.

Some buns shed in patches naturally. It’s not pretty, but it’s normal. The bun looks moth eaten for a while and then it doesn’t.

You can cut off bad mats on a Jersey wooly, it can be a hopeless task to groom it all out.

Yeah, I just cut the bad mats. But Bam is right, it isn’t unusual to have bald spots after grooming. If the fur was loose and coming out it clumps, then I doubt any harm was done.
