  My 5 month old mini lop, Achilles, fractured his 3rd metatarsal yesterday. I took him to the emergency vet as he was limping, they gave him pain injections and injections to keep his digestive system going. 3 pm today he got sedated and Xrayed-they confirmed the fracture. Vets said he was a delight, eating and drinking before and after the surgery. I have pain meds for him, which I gave him 3 hours ago, but he is teeth grinding which is worrying me. Could it be from stress and annoyance from the day rather than him being in pain? He has eaten and drank and good regularly since being home, and licked me and tried to run around, all good signs! He is just a little more subdued than normal. He has a cast on, so might be annoyed at that? The vet is a rabbit specialist, but closed now so I’ll call in the morning and ask, but if anyone can put my mind at ease? I’m just so worried and upset, been crying all night! Such a traumatic (and expensive!!!) process

  If he’s eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, then I wouldn’t be horribly worried. Monitor him closely tonight and call the vet tomorrow, especially if the behavior continues. They may give you some different meds.

  I’ve been up all night, checking. He stopped pooing hard pellets around 12, but I think did some caecotrophs. He has been eating and drinking all night, no tooth grinding this morning and he is very bright and almost acting normal-just the poos I’m worried about now!

  That’s great to hear! Maybe he was still agitated last night. It’s hard to know. If he’s doing better now, then you should be good. I would just continue to monitor him, make him comfortable, etc while he heals. Did the vet say when to come back to have it checked to see if it’s healing?
