Help! Clear, slimy bun poop!

So I went on vacation last week and left my bun with a friend who said she felt comfortable taking care of her and had owned buns before.  I also left very clear instructions on what to do to take care of her. However, when I returned home today I found clear slimy poop. I don’t know any details because I haven’t been able to talk to my friend yet as she is busy, but I’m in a panic so I was hoping you guys could help me.  Here is what I do know:

The cage the previous owners gave me (who had her for several years and used the same cage) put linoleum tiles on the bottom and she managed to peel off the decorative top but not eat the whole tile.

When I came home, she had no bunny pellet food, and I don’t know how long she was out.

She is eating, I gave her lettuce and have seen her eat hay since I’ve been home.  However, the poop is still clear and slimy. 

She is also grooming herself. 

This makes me seem like a terrible bun owner but I would have never left if I had known this was going to happen

Oh you couldn’t have known. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

It’s possibe she may have had a gut slow down. The body produces the mucus to protect the stomach lining.

But talk with your friend  to find out if your rabbits poop had been looking health for the most part. It might be something she has had in the last 24 hours that didn’t agree with her. Regarding the vinyl tile, has she peeled off the top during the stay do you mean? 

 It is a good thing you are seeing poop. Giving her some probiotics wouldn’t hurt. Definitely encourage hay. Hopefully her gut will speed up to normal rate and you’ll be seeing healthy poop again soon. If it’s still looking suss tomorrow, maybe get her checked out at the vet in case there is a bacterial overgrowth in her gut.

Yes while I was gone she peeled the decorative top layer off in a spot. I’m not sure how to describe the material of it though, because like I said it wasn’t the whole tile.

Also, I’ve been hand feeding her every few hours with lettuce and hay, the poop is still clear and liquidy though. I’ve also seen her drinking.

She is doing another weird movement where she looks like she’s stretching her back legs but she does it quite frequently.

Thanks for the previous advice! Hopefully the poo will return to normal soon since she’s been eating.

Can I ask what brand you keep on hand JG and where you get it from? It’s really something I should have but don’t.

If she’s stretching often it may be that’s she’s a bit uncomfortable in her gut and is trying to adjust it to make it better. The times that Bandit was unwell he was often stretching or changing positions to try and get comfortable.

Azerane, I have Vetafarm “Probotic” (actually spelled that way). In hindsight, I wonder if it would have been better getting their avian synbiotic.
I got it through vet n pet direct. I think it’s in a lot of online stores here, but I’m not sure about pet stores.

Mucus can be a sign of inflammation as well. The stretching is likely her way of pushing her belly to the floor (different bunnies can look different when they do it). It’s a sign that she is uncomfortable. Her system could be upset because she ate the linoleum.

Is she still eating and drinking? She needs to eat a lot of hay and drink a lot of water so the indigestible stuff will hopefully pass through her system. If she isn’t eating/drinking or pooping, then she needs to see a vet.
