Our AC broke down this morning and it’s been steadily getting steadily hotter.
Just two hours ago, it was 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Gary and Mickey both did a dead bunny flop and they were lying like that for an hour.
At first, I thought they were resting, but realized they were overheating after I put ice cubes in there and both of them continuously licked the ice and did their begging pose for more. Moved them to the basement, but even there, it’s getting hotter.
Our AC isn’t due to get fixed for another two days minimum, and I don’t see how the bunnies can survive, or how our ice production can keep up. (Fridge often shuts down for some reason)
Also, Gary has urine all over his butt for some reason, despite him being healthy.
I’m worried he might have or get fly strike, although I couldn’t find any maggots the last five times I checked his and Mickey’s butts.
        Need help ASAP, thanks!

He could be urinating all over himself if he’s drunk more/licked ice so his bladder gets full.

Wet their ears with cool water. It helps them cool down. Can you get a fan of the type that you can hang a wet towel over? That is a very effective way of cooling a bunny down, if you place the fan rather near the rabbit (beware of cable chewing).

Cool water bottles are good as well as bricks/tiles/ stones that you’ve kept in the fridge or freezer for a while -exchange often. Buns often like to lie close to or on the cool objects.

As for fly strike, clean Gary’s skin free of urine and put a barrier crime on his downstairs area (vaseline) to keep him from getting urine scald/compromised skin -that makes him less attractive to flies. Check butts twice a day for signs of flystrike if you see flies near them.

For humans it’s good to wrap them in wet bed sheets and put a fan on them, but I don’t know how well that’d work on a bunny.

I don’t have a fan unfortunately, but I tried the wet towel, which Mickey and Gary both constantly began to bite and attempt to shake off.
I saw a green bottle fly in Mickey’s litterbox, but that was after I changed the litter, so I rinsed the box out and checked Mickey’s butt, which seemed to be fine.
Both bunnies have been peeking up since I’ve tried your solution for wet ears, but I need a more permanent solution, since our house is now at 83 degrees Fahrenheit.

These cooling tips are from this site’s info pages. You might be able to find something there that could be of help to you:
