Hello from Stacy and Marshmallow

Hello everyone I have  been lurking around here for a few days now and I thought I would say hello . I have really enjoyed looking at all your bunnys photos and I am findig the info on this site and on your posts very helpful thank you all so much.I am a new bunny mom and it was a surprise but I am so enjoying him he has added alot of joy to mine and my family’s lives already.My little girl turned 6 on wend. and my father in law bought “her ” a bunny  It was a happy surprise but a surprise none the lessI know that a rabbit needs lots of care and a gentle hand and I am ready to do everything that he needs to be happy so first thing was I ran to the good old internet and did some searches on rabbit care and I found this wonderful site .I am not sure of his age the info I got from my father in law is they told him he was young and a dwarf. He came from a feed store and is very sweet and not shy so I suppose he has had lots for handling and good treatment .From the pics i have seen on bunnys I belive he is a gray dutch he is pretty small, still a baby.After just 2 days of litter box training in his pen there is no pee anywhere but the box and most poops are in there as well. When he runs around my living room he still leave little pills but today they are much decreased from last night . I keep him in his cage but let him out for play and get to know his home and family time .Our family consists of my husband ,me our 3 children (daughters ages 6 and 10, and a son 12) , 2 doxies (Scooby and Milo )and a cat ( Bella)  the youngest dog(Milo)  thinks he is great and is very gentle with him but we still keep a close eye on him and the cat wants to play but she is very gentle as well .My other doxie only lives with us part time he has grandma next door who he would rather be with (she spoils him rotten) and he has a very high pray drive so I dont trust him at all around Marshmallow it is gonna take alot of training watchful eyes in that ones case for now we just don’t let him out of the cage while scooby is in the house but on a good note when he is in the cage scooby just ignores him so there is some hope there yet.The kids know he is not to be picked up and he is not a toy. We lay on the floor and let him come to us for pets this seems to be working well. And on his first night here we had the pleasure of our first bunny binky !He does them alot it has to be the cutest funniest thing I have ever seen lol .He never runs from me when it is time to go back to his home in fact he loves it . Well that’s about it for now so a big hello from our family to yours now lets see if I can manage to post some pics of the lovely and binkytastic Marshmallow

Welcome! We are glad you are here. Marshmallow is a Dutch and they are one of the smartest and cutest rabbit breeds ever. His/her coloring is very unique too. What a sweetie. Please feel free to post about anything – we are happy to help.

lol They all say that! *roll eyes* He’s dutch. And that’s a smallish breed. He could have another breed in the mix as that’s pretty common. They coloured portion of Marshmellow looks to be agouti fur. You may be able to see the colour bands down the length of the fur – very cool. Does he even have the agoutis typical white belly? It appears white and colour closer to the skin.

Happy to hear you’re family is enjoying having him. Rabbits are spell binding!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome .Yes I think he is gorgeous also . He in fact does have bands of color on each hair gray and light  brown.Sort of a gray background and light brown tips its a lovely combo if i do say so myself I thought that  dwarf was doubtful when I saw the pics of true dwarfs with their tiny ears, but it doesnt make him any less wonderful . For his belly he wont let me inspect it the little stinker  , but from what i can tell its mostly white with some gray bloches but i cant realy get a good look ill have to wait til he does a back leg stand lol and sneeak a closer look 

Edit. when I picked him up to put him back in his house I managed to get a better look at his tummy without to much fuss .His belly is indeed white but the undercoat is gray closer to the skin

That does sound like an agouti belly – so cute! Agouti fur is like wild rabbits have and it comes in different “colours” depending on the colours in the bands.

“dwarf” term is used alot because it leads the buyer to thinking the rabbit will remain small. Netherland dwarfs have those cute little ears. There are dwarf versions of many breeds though. My lop is known here as a Dwarf Lop yet he is 6lbs – but it is a dwarf version of a French lop which get much bigger. All semantics really – bottom line is it doesn’t matter if dwarf or not, this breed or that – because they’re just cute! Marshmallow’s a testament to that.

Welcome! He sure is a handsome little man! I have a dutch bun, Moose. He’s awesome And I have a netherland dwarf, one of the ones with the itty bitty ears… she’s psychotic. But awesome as well

He’s such a cutie! I don’t own a dutch, but I hear that they’re very smart and sometimes sneaky 😉 I’m sure he’ll keep you on your toes!

eta: I believe his color is called “grey dutch”. http://www.dutchrabbit.com/aboutthe…breed.html Jersey’s right – definitely an agouti color. I think the same grey agouti color in non-dutches (of course without the dutch white markings) is called chinchilla, but I guess they don’t the same color terminology in every breed.

Elrohwen, thanks for finding that. I have literally just been looking at pictures trying to determine Marshmallow’s colour! lol I am now crossed eyed. Never thought to look direct at dutch colours!

Yeah, if he were solid in that color, I’m fairly sure it would be called chinchilla – not sure why it’s not a chinchilla dutch. But that makes it tricky if you’re searching under non-dutch colors. I guess grey dutch was easier to come up with for the first person who bred one :-P

Thank you for the link Elrohwen and you too Jersey for trying to help fing out what was the best discription of Marshmallow’s breed /coat . He does look just like that little bunny on that site so beautiful! Wooo iI am wiped out I have been building him a larger habitat I took some advice from the other threads in the houseing forums and went to Bed Bath and Beyod and got 2 NIC grid sets now he has all the room one tiny bunny could want and he realy loves it . It took my husband and me about 2 hours to get it just right but I think its well worth it .My husband said as we where finished up that now it made him want to go get anther bunny for Marshmallow to live with! >< lol I told him lets think on that for a few days
