I’m new to this forum and just wanted to say hello to all of the bunnies out there!!

I only have one bun, who I found outside at my apartment complex. He has an injured ear, but it does not affect him in the slightest bit. He’s a happy go lucky rabbit, and he’s such a sweetheart too. The attached picture is of Lenny the day I found him! It shows his ear well, and we also all know how difficult it can be to get a good pic of your bun!

Looking forward to being a part of a bun loving community

Welcome! I fixed your picture for you. What a sweetie! Are you sure he isn’t part lop? He looks like a rex, but his ears have that lop shape.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how to even post a pic HAHA

His ear is very heavy and is puffy. The vet compared it to how humans get a cauliflower ear if they have trauma to it, so it’s the same for him. It’s very hard and closed up, whereas the other ear is fine, so I’d say he’s all rex with an injury. No idea how that could’ve even happened either :/

Oh it is? It doesn’t look like it in the picture, that’s why I thought maybe it was a partially lopped ear. Poor thing. There could have been trauma to the cartilage at the base of the ear. Generally, that can be caused by being caught in something or if someone picked him up by the ears. He probably belonged to someone in or near your apartment complex.

Unfortunately, I know who it was. I also work at the complex, and word gets out eventually! It was a family with 2 young children, so who knows how they treated him. It’s amazing how loving he is though! I had a rabbit when I was younger, and she was the meanest thing, so I honestly never expected a bunny to have a sweet temperment. She was stolen by the people who did our lawn, so I didn’t have much experience with buns until Lenny came around. I’m happy he did though!

My vet just told me to keep an eye on it to watch for infections and any irritation. No problems so far though

Care should be taken with bunnies and small children. They can easily hurt a bunny without even realizing it. The parents probably got him thinking he would be a good pet for the kids. I think it’s great he found his way to a caring person like you. And he doesn’t seem affected by his previous experience too much, so that’s good. Bunnies can be surprisingly resilient. A lot more than people think sometimes.

I live in NY too and I can’t imagine letting a bun outside here, but people do it. Welcome and he is adorable!
