Hello everyone! My name is Bekka and I am a bunny owner of 2 months. When I bought him the sales lady said that he was an American breed of bunny, and a male rabbit, although his markings look more dutch than anything… So not sure about the breed or the sex haha! Those don’t matter though b/c my little bun is great. He has a wonderful personality and is very outgoing. I was going to name him “Oleander” after a video game in which the character owned rabbits, but it got shortened to Ollie. So now I tell everyone I named him after the skateboard maneuver where you hop in the air.
Ollie has saved my life. I really really thought of myself as a cat person, so I wasn’t to keen on a bunny at first, but now I know I’m probably going to be a bunny person for life.
You see, I’ve recently moved to Ohio with my husband and my toddler and have been living with my inlaws…. Yeeeyah. I love my inlaws but I don’t think it’s good to live with them. Anyways, we’re basically in a no windowed basement which is maddening and depressing. We only have one car which my hubs takes to work, leaving me stuck in a windowless basement with a toddler. My inlaws are very uptight with the house, which is understanding and I’m fine with that… it’s just a lot of pressure…. because one their, my INLAWS and two i’ve got a toddler.
ANYWAYS. Long story short I’ve been battling my depression for almost a year and a half. Then a couple of months ago my meds quit working. Needless to say I went into a downward spiral. The inlaws don’t like cats or dogs or well any pets really…. so I was really down about not being able to have that kind of outlet in my life. I love animals. They’re just so rejuvenating. But, factor in a basement with no windows and a toddler and pets are pretty much out.
We were out in a pet store one day and I saw these rabbits… it was like I had an epiphany. Rabbits! Why hadn’t I thought of it earlier?! So I finally got up the courage to as my in laws if I could keep one in our section of the house and they said yes! Ollie is so great with my daughter (who is almost two) and he’s completely happy with us. He’ll be even more happy next month though when we finally get to move into our OWN APARTMENT, and he can be a full fledged HOUSE BUNNY! Yay!
So that’s that. I was dying a slow death with thoughts of suicide and then Ollie binkied into my life and is helping me to beat my depression… and hopefully for good this time.
Can’t wait to get to know everyone!
