I’ve already posted to another subforum with, unfortunately, some bunny troubles, but I thought I should also introduce myself here as a part of getting settled and checking out the forums more often!
I’m just your average Belgian bunny slave and have been so for quite some time. Previously, I’ve been the owner of a female Californian, a male Netherland dwarf who lived to the beautiful old age of 9, and a female lionhead who unfortunately passed away after complications with an infection deep in her inner ear. I’ve also kept guinea pigs for a while and am still caring for a lovely little lady of 7 years old, but I’ve never been able to hold off on keeping rabbits for very long. I love their energy, curiosity, and social behaviors.
Currently I own two boys, Gabriel and Raphael, my angels. They’re mini lops and litter mates, born March 2015 and with me since May of the same year. They’re both neutered (it was high time, back in September, because the humping was really starting to wear both their patience and energy thin!) and litterbox trained.
Gabriel is a chocolate bun and a complete sweetie. He’s quite large for a mini lop and not the most active bun around–he prefers to blast into a few minutes of “speed racer” mode and then have a comfy flop. Although he’s not keen on being picked up, he loves getting pets, and putting your fingertips on his forehead makes him melt down into a goopy bun-shaped puddle, ready for rubs. He does repay the favor, he’s very lick-happy, but if he’s licking without you petting him back, he’ll shove his head under your fingers and push to remind you that he expects his share! He’s a little bit mischievous and has had one great escape that baffles us to this day and left us with quite a lot of chewed-up notebooks and a torn-open bag of hay to find in the aftermath, but he’s been good about it since. All in all he’s gentle and sweet, but a little mischievous (what bunny isnt?).
Raphael is an opal bun, and while Gabi loves to be petted as often as possible, Rafi is a bit more standoffish, preferring to run about and do his own thing without being bothered. He’s also more skittish than his brother–I remember when I first offered them a bit of banana, Gabi grabbed his piece and was off with it, while Rafi kept cautiously sniffing, taking little nibbles, and tossing his head. He’s a bit more irritable in general and will let it show when he doesn’t approve of being petted anymore, but he’s also more active than his brother, and more likely to want to explore every nook and cranny of the room he’s roaming in.
Up until recently, the two have gotten along swimmingly, which made for a lot of great photo moments of the two cuddling together, grooming, and baby pictures of them laying almost on top of one another. Right now they’re going through some rough times after a fight and don’t get to run around freely together anymore until they’ve settled down, but I’m hopeful that things will turn out okay.
It’s great to meet everyone and to see everyone’s lovely bunnies! Thanks for having me.
