Hello, everybunny!

I am a new member here and a new bunny owner!  I am picking up my new little one sometime tomorrow!  She is a Californian rabbit and only a few months old.  The “breeder” that has her right now is completely incompitent and it only makes me want her more.  He informed me he breeds “pet agree” rabbits and said he would have a litter in a month of New Zelands.  He sent me a photo of his buck he was about to breed and it was a very obvious Flemmish Giant that was still on CraigsList.  I had even talked to his owners and he’s neutered, lol.  To prove he wasn’t a Flemmy, the breeder sent me a screen shot of the CraigsList ad.  

Long story short, my Remy girl will be coming home with me tomorrow.  She is only a few months old and I am getting into bunnies because due to some family issues and being related to our landlord, we were told that we can no longer keep our cat but a cage bunny would be fine.  I deal with a depression and anxiety disorder due to an abusive household as a child and being a stay at home mom in an apartment with a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom as well as sharing a car with my husband who works, I need companionship.  My daughter is only three months old so she obviously doesn’t provide much in the way of conversations or playing yet.  Remy will be a companion, not to take the place of my cat but to open a new place in my heart.  My cat will be going home with my mother-in-law so I know she will be safe and taken care of.

Remy’s home is an extra-large dog crate with a plastic tray on the bottom.  I would like to litter train her but I don’t want to take up too much room in her cage, so I’ll have to see if the litter box fits when I get her cage.  I will be lining the cage with puppy pads and offering her pellets and hay daily.  She will also get treats often such as lettuce, carrots, raisins and other fresh ingredients we cook with.  As long as my husband is at work and Aliceander (my daughter) isn’t in need of me, she will be out roaming our house.

It’ll be more easier for you if you litterbox train Remy. Get her spayed when she is of age. This is necessary for health reasons and litterbox training.

Hi from Australia! I’m a stay at home mum/person too as even though my kids have grown up, with 2 having moved out (YAY!) I had to give up work when my middle child finished school due to his disability and his need to be supervised. We have always had pets, mostly small dog’s and free roam budgie’s (bird), but had always wanted a bunny! And here we are with Henry! I tell you, he keeps me on my toes and my mind has to keep working to keep up with his antic’s. I often describe caring for Henry just like caring for my kids when they were one and two! Lol!
My son can’t talk either, so between my son, 3 dog’s and a bunny (Henry is free roam) I get to do ALL the talking in my house and no one answers me back! (Till the hubby gets home from work – dam!) LOL! Sounds good, but I understand that you get lonely – it took me a good 2 years to adjust. I bothered my hubby and kids with texting (yay for iPhone’s), and now that I’m finally used to my own space and time I actually get annoyed when they bother me (especially when I’m having BB time), ha ha ha ha……
Henry was an absolute horror before he got neutered and his toilet habits are now perfect. Short of supplying him with his litter tray we really didn’t have to do anything else, though HE chose where he wanted his toilet to be located. No prob! No way was I going to argue over the location if it meant he used it each and every time with no mishaps.
Congratulations on being a new mum to your baby daughter and your bunny.

She will be spayed as soon as I find a vet that actually spays around here…. I get “We neuter but we lose a lot of spays so it’s at your own risk.” Not exactly comforting. The closest place I KNOW spays is 4 hours away and that just isn’t a commute we can make at this time.

Welcome!! That is sad news about your cat, but I am sure your new bunny will quickly find a place in your heart. They’re just too irresistible!

Welcome to BB! Congratulations on becoming a new mommy and soon to be bunny mommy!
My bunnies, Frodo and Arya, also offer me companionship because my boyfriend has a different working schedule than me! He works evenings and I work 9 to 5. So they entertain my BF by day and me by night! (Better said, they sleep and then beg us to feed them, lol.)
