Hey so, I’m new here. I don’t have a bunny YET, but basically my parents agreed to me being able to have one but I have to pay for everything myself. I am to you to get a job and I need roughly 250 so if anyone knows how to make money fast plz let me know.

It will be very important down the line that you let your parents know that there may be times they will need to help you with finances, as rabbit vet costs can be very expensive, as well as buying the monthly supplies (hay, litter, etc.) regularly. Making no assumptions about your parents, but generally, many adults let their children have rabbits because they believe it’s a pretty -low effort- pet, that just needs to be kept in its cage. That’s 100% not true, and thus, if you’ll be living with your parents for the foreseeable future, you’ll need to have a discussion about letting your rabbit have it’s own space, be free-roam, have coverage for when you’re at school (if applicable), have coverage when your rabbit needs potentially expensive examinations/medications, etc..

As an extreme example, my first 3 months with Wick, I spent roughly $1,000 on just vet bills because he was sick and needed constant medication. In addition to the vet bills, I spent $40 on hay every 2-3 weeks, plus purchasing litter. It’s a lot of money sometimes, so let your parents know you may need their support!

Yes, I understand all of that, but thank you. I have actually found a job that hires at my age so I’ll be able to make enough to save up for the things that are necessary and the monthly things as well. It’s gonna take some time to save up but it’s so worth it. My parents did agree to help me out with vet bill just in case and I’m also going to be setting aside money as well. I’m also going to be looking to adopt one that is already fixed so we won’t have to worry to much about that. But as far as the amount of time and work and effort a bunny needs I am fully award and prepared and I have thought it out for ages.

Yes, I’d recommend adopting so you don’t have to come up with the funds for the spay/neuter! Also, the fosterer or shelter may be able to tell you a bit about the bunny’s personality, bad habits, and diet/medical needs upfront so you can get an idea of what to expect, rather than buying a bunny that has ailments the breeder is unaware of (for example e.cuniculi).

On a side note, I second everything Wick says. As long as your parents understand that some unsuspected things can happen with bunnies and you may need help should an emergency arise. Bunnies can get very sick in as little as 1 day! There is a lot of great information here. Good luck with bunny search and saving! I hope you have more self control than me hahaha I am a bit spendy!!
