hello and can someone help identify bunny?

 Hi- I just adopted a rabbit and I am not sure on the breed, I was hoping someone could help. A little information… He is one year of age, white everywhere – except the dot on his nose, the bottom of all four paws are gray, and there are one or two small grey patches at the base of his ear. He is about 3 pounds maybe 4. He is super friendly, energetic, and likes to be held. I have searched on the internet but I think he might be a mix. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Welcome! I imagine he’s a mix of maybe lionehead and something else. It’s hard to tell. But whatever his breed, he’s adorable.

I don’t know, but I agree he is probably a mix. And very cute, too.
A red eyed white bunny is called a REW, and ones without any marks are often Florida Whites, but they tend to be much bigger. He’s some kind of dwarf if he’s only 3ish lbs. at a year. That’s probably the lionhead part, since they are smaller.

lol, his name isn’t Elvis but I love Elvis! Thanks for the replies. I was thinking part Lionhead because he has a tiny little patch of hair on his head that is longer than the rest – but doesn’t look like the traditional mane. I was thinking a mix but was just a little curious. Yes, Mocha, he is most definitely neutered! Thanks again for the insight and comments.

Oh Lord, how cute is that?!! Especially when lying down and you can see base of all 4 paws! Must see more pics!
Is he a red-eye-white? The colouring of the feet plus REW makes me think he may have a little himilayan in him….Also can see lionhead and some dwarf traits (possible netherland dwarf). Mix breeds are unique and lovely and really impossible to discern just what they’re made up of. So I agree with mellowzmum that his official breed must be “Cuteness”.

So cute! I’m going to guess lionhead – he looks purebred to me, right face, right ears. And lionheads can vary widely in type. His color is tricky! If he didn’t have red eyes I would say he was a regular broken color, but with lots of white. But the red eyes throw me off! I don’t know what you’d call his color. Usually red eyed white bunnies don’t have any color on them. Or you can have red eyed bunnies with color on the ears and nose (like himilayans), but it doesn’t look like his color.

Absolutely adorable! I remember that my netherland dwarf seemed to have a little longer hair on the top of her head between her ears….could just be a coincidence. The ears remind me of the netherland dwarf though but the face doesn’t quite match up to breed standards. Whatever the breed, glad to hear he’s found a great home!

Monkey has an itty bitty tuft between her ears that is a tab bit longer too.. hmm. Its only noticeable when she has her ears perked all the way forward

Elrohwen, the american rabbit breeders association webby(arba.net) doesn’t have info on lionheads. What’s best to look at breed stardards here? UK sites?

Jers, I believe lionheads aren’t an officially established breed with the ARBA, but they can be shown and have a working standard. Since they aren’t an official breed yet, there are a lot of different types of lionheads out there – lots of them don’t look very close to the breed standard (they can have too much mane, not enough mane, too large ears, etc).

Oh, Otto also has that tuft of hair on his head where his ears come together (but his is pretty obvious since he has loppy ears). It’s called the “crown” in loppy breeds I think.

He is so cute! Not entirely sure on the breed but I think everyone had great guesses! Are his paws actually gray, b/c they might be stained from newspaper like my buns. I made them a newspaper diggy box and now all 8 paws have a gray tinge to them. Not a big deal, just don’t be surprised if in a couple months his paws are suddenly white.

I take it back.. he sure isn’t part nethie. Far far far too big! Looking at those pics, he’s most likely the lionhead mix, his ears are bigger than I had originally thought.

My Monkey is 1.5 lbs, which is on the small side for a netherland dwarf, but they don’t get much bigger than 2-2.5 lbs usually.

Lol, he does look like a monkey! I am pretty sure his paws are gray… we will see though! I was just really curious on his breed or mix because sometimes he doesn’t even look rabbit! lol.

My Zinnia has that same crab rattle in your last picture. She LOVES that thing! Your bunny is very cute. How soon will it be before you adopt a companion? I don’t know anyone who stops adopting at one…lol (says the woman with 7)

Hi Tarm- I got all his toys at Target. He doesn’t really play with them though; he only picks them up to move them out of his way! I just got him neutered, I was told I have to wait before he gets a buddy. His personality changes everyday (he seems to be getting less affectionate and more wild. I hope it is just his hormones straightening out. I will have to research this boards posts to get some good advice on pairing rabbits, it is very resourceful!

How old is he? Sometimes bunnies have age related behavior that doesn’t change with neutering. So a 7 month old neutered bun can still be a PITA, if that makes sense 😉 He might be going through a teenager stage, or it could be that he needs a month to get the hormones out of his system before he settles down.

He was a stray rabbit, so they estimated him to be a year old. What you said is what I am hoping for. I just try and give him his space now, give him plenty of exercise, toys, and I try not to pick him up unless absolutely necessary. He is not aggressive and doesn’t bite, so I am very lucky there. He just seems to be ignoring me more and more everyday, which does sound like a teenager, lol. I will be patient. Do you think getting him a buddy in a couple of months is a good idea – or does it solely depend on the rabbit?

I think getting a second bunny depends on the owner more than the bun. I think you need to be really ready for a second – ready for the poop wars, the bonding time, etc. If you’re ready for it, I’m sure he’ll be ready for it too 🙂
